Mark Driscoll

Thank you so much for starting with this question because this is one of the more crazy-making situations.

Um, first, I think if we all just take one step back and think about why, why are people so excited about the idea of young men coming to church? And you don't have to think back very far, but if you do, you land on Promise Keepers, and then you have Mark Driscoll, and just years and years of this quest to draw in young men as if this is the key to future success for the church, when in reality, in religions all over the world, women are more religious than men, and those religions are usually sustained by the free labor of many, many women.

So I think just on its surface, that desire for men to join the church is a little, uh, a little misplaced when so much of the work that sustains your church is done by women.

That said, there's also something very interesting going on between anecdotal stories and, and some surveys.

I have been in the pulpit for a little more than 30 years, preaching and teaching the Bible.

I have been faithfully married to my wife since 1992.

And even the stories about this apostle that John will tell and that Caleb will tell is that it was never a, well, not never, because they have accounts of the apostle yelling, but it's more often than not, oh, do you not love me? It's manipulative tactics.

It's not heavy handed in the sense that we would think of as, you know, screaming, yelling, kind of a Mark Driscoll rise and fall of Mars Hill sort of vibe of really manipulative and ugly sorts of manipulation, but a very gentle, subversive gaslighting sort of manipulation.

So, man, I think it comes in a lot of different phases.

But we've seen a ton of it.

And I just think, well, man, where's Mark Driscoll when we need him?

Mark Driscoll's a pastor in Arizona.

He's apparently friends with Charlie Kirk, but he's big on social media.

But he's got a clip like, yeah, if you're parents of boys, it's just different than raising girls because you're going to climb trees.
