doesn't get married and that's the that's the real uh the real kind of issue at stake so that's very much like it's kind of boom time like Blair's you know New Labour Britain and yeah she wants she wants kind of uh she wants a man she wants to get married and live happily ever after and there's not really I mean Mark Darcy is fabulously rich I think they say that a few times but like you know that's not supposed to be the main consideration you know it's supposed to be about like love but yeah I don't know if we ever had the same kind of uh like period in Ireland it's it's definitely more complicated.

Yeah, it is extraordinary, though, how those big macro decisions or prevailing economic circumstances then filter down to have a direct effect on people's personal lives and the choices they make.

And, you know, not just make things economically more difficult, but kind of actually affect their happiness as well.

It made it even more, again, more yearning and longing.

Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy, they want each other, but they sort of have this sort of priggish, annoying kind of banter that goes on.

And it works really well, and then they get together.

who stumbles her way through career mishaps and a love triangle between her caddish boss, Daniel, played by Hugh Grant, and human rights lawyer, Mark Darcy, played by Colin Firth.

So before we get into the why of it all, why don't you just set the scene for

us? So it's actually at the start of the movie and it's in the opening credits.

Bridget Jones has kind of embarrassed herself at her Christmas family do.

Saw Mark Darcy in the reindeer jumper.

Didn't think much of that.

They based Mark Darcy off him.

Yeah.
