Mark Armour

We've got some really strong interviews this year with some really heavy hitters, so to speak, including our 50th episode, which will go live on Wednesday, December 9th, 2026.

On today's episode, I spoke with Mark Armour.

Mark is a baseball historian, film lover, music enthusiast, husband, and father living in Corvallis, Oregon.

After many years as a student or professional in high tech, Mark retired in April of 2021 and now has more time to spend on his passion for baseball research and writing.

Mark chaired Sabre's Negro Leagues Task Force, which in 2021 recommended that Sabre recognize the seven great Negro Leagues as major leagues.

In a previous episode of My Baseball History with our guest Adam Dorowski of Baseball Reference, we spoke about the integration of the statistics from those Negro Leagues into the official major league record books and the historical implications of that change.

Mark Armour has won two McFarland Sabre Baseball Research Awards and two Sabre Baseball Research Awards.

In May of 2025, he was awarded one of those McFarland Sabre Baseball Research Awards for his article on the politics surrounding Satchel Paige's eventual election to the Hall of Fame.
