Mark 14

This is quite astounding.

In Mark 14, verse 33.

You don't have to turn there, just listen.

Mark 14, 33 reads, And he took with him Peter and James and John and began to be greatly distressed and troubled.

It's the word troubled.

Greatly distressed and troubled.

There, there is I will, and Father, I will that they also.

It's almost like there in 17:24, but here in, in Mark 14:26, he says, uh, he says, um, uh, "Nevertheless, not what I will, but thou wilt." So there's a transition of things that happens when Jesus comes and He becomes that sacrificial lamb.

Yeah.

All right? In order to be the priest that...

[laughs] Here we go.

[laughs] "Father, I will that they also whom thou hast given me be with me where I, uh, be where I am that they may behold me, my glory, which thou hast given me.

For thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world." So we see how God's desire here is that, uh, uh, we see the, the, the, the, "Father, I will be, I will, I will that they also whom thou hast given me be with me where I am that they may behold my glory." And so we understand that, "I will." We understand the, the, the difference between I will and the fact that, of Mark 14:36, where he says, "Not, uh, not what I will, but thou will." We understand that Jesus has taken the baton here.

He's becoming the very Son of God.

Again, he's going to appear in his glory like Psalm 103 says.

Mark 14, verse 62.

Then in Revelation chapter 1, verse 7, it says, Look.

He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him.

Matthew 24:30 says, "Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory." Here the return of Christ is a visible, public event of power and glory.

Compare Mark 14:61-62.

This is a description of the trial scene where Jesus is interrogated by the high priest.

"Again the high priest asked him, 'Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?' And Jesus said, 'I am, and you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.'" This leads immediately to Jesus' condemnation for blasphemy.

And so we're gonna learn from Peter's life today as recorded in the Word of God, these things that are written for our learning and for our admonition.

So the Bible reads in verse 66 of Mark 14, "And as Peter was beneath in the palace, there cometh one of the maids of the high priest.

When she saw Peter warming himself, she looked upon him and said, 'Thou also wast with Jesus of Nazareth.' But he denied, saying, 'I know not, neither understand I what thou sayest.' And he went out into the porch and the cock crew.

And a maid saw him again and began to say to them that stood by, 'This is one of them.' And he denied it again and a little after...

Mark 14, beginning at verse 1, invites you to hear the holy, inspired, and inerrant word of God as it's read for you.

It was now two days before the Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread.

And the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how to arrest him by stealth and kill him.

So it's such an important story.

I like in Mark 14, where in verse, let's see.

Let's see.

In verse three, it says, and being in Bethany at the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at the table, a woman having a... came having an alabaster flask of very costly oil of spikenard then she broke the flask and poured it on his head but there were some who were in indignant among themselves and said why was this fragrant oil wasted for it might have been sold for more than 300 denarii and given to the poor and they criticized her sharply now let's listen to the words of what jesus said he said let her alone Why do you trouble her? For she has done a good work for me.
