Marissa Ribisi

Gay Rabisi was the mother of a girlfriend he had.

when he was a young man, Marissa Ribisi, who ironically, not ironically, but I mean, it just shows how small the Scientology world, later married Beck, was married to him for a long time.

That was Jason's girlfriend when he was a young man.

And that was how he met Gay Ribisi, Marissa's mother.

And Gay was the powerful Hollywood manager, agent type person who got Jason into the Mallrats audition, essentially.

and helped elevate him to become a real powerful, formidable, and successful star.

And so people who maybe are familiar with the Scientology story know how important the Ribisi family is to all of that.

And I think for that reason alone, when you're talking about a profile of someone's life, it's reasonable to ask about Scientology.

This is one that...

My wife and children have enjoyed several tracks off of when I play them, so this is maybe not the most quote-unquote Beck of the Beck albums, but it holds a special place in my heart.

Chris, what were your first overall impressions of Colors?

I was pretty shook by the very commercial poppy sound, to be transparent, right? The journey I've been going on with Beck, to your point, this is the least Beck album that I've encountered thus far.

So, Chris, we've got a little less history to dig into this time around.

This is a period in Beck's life where he is remaining pretty much in the shadows.

I suspect a lot of things are happening in the background that will ultimately lead him to file for divorce from his wife, Marissa Ribisi, in 2019.

I don't want to, you know... get out of control speculating here, because I really don't know what was going on in his life.

Here's what I wasn't expecting in the first season of Felicity, a character as whimsical as Julio Torres.

[laughs] And if you don't know what I'm talking about, there's a link in the show notes to the wildly important sketch, The Letter Q, from Phantasma's first episode, which is basically premised on the same theory that Astrid, who's played by Marissa Ribisi, is advancing here.

Mm-hmm.

And the thing about this debate is when you start digging into it, you're like, y- you really can go deep.
