Marine Corps Marathon

So we've got it all figured out and we're going to tell you what does that even mean as part of that segment.

And then we're heading to northern New Jersey where runners competing in the Race Faster Half Marathon found themselves crossing in waist deep and sometimes even chest deep water as part of their race.

Now this was flood water and despite the flash flood warnings, the race still went on.

So we will talk about that.

Then we've got a news topic about the High Rocks Beijing controversy.

And so now we're opening the evidence files and investigating some of the strangest mysteries.

scandals, and even controversies in the running history.

We're going to talk about suspicious split times, missing photographs, a wind gauge that wasn't working properly, a marathon with a website, official results, and a race director, but no actual race.

And I think that that's the other thing that cancer did is that I was in the best shape of my life when I got cancer.

It was just the weirdest thing in the world to me because I had just won my age group at the Marine Corps Marathon and then I got cancer.

And I was in the best shape of my life when that happened to me.

But the whole thing is you just have to focus.

I'll tell you what they're useful for.

I started Marine Corps Marathon two years ago with two of them, one on each hand.

Do you know what

you could do? You just black mask them to your wrist and then just...

Um, but yeah, 122 beats a minute for seven, 10 base.

That's pretty good.

I think that's the flat outs as well coming off the, uh, the hills and then this morning I did a long run session first one of these in a while it's like a proper marathon session getting into the meat of the Marine Corps marathon block now so this was 36k total so 22.4 miles 604 mile in average and it was a 15K warmup, so 9.4 miles, 6.38 pace, so fairly steady pace for the warmup.

And then the main meat of the session was 10 by 1K above marathon effort and 1K flow or like just below marathon effort.

So everyone can be a part of it.

And, you know, I really like my thing is I really like giving people like a really fun time at races, like especially Marine Corps Marathon.

Big Sauce 50K.

barclay fall classic of course that's next week and i'm doing some road so i'm doing marine corps marathon for with ainsley's oh the army 10 miler i'm gonna i'm uh i bet i can't talk i'm an ambassador for that race oh cool uh yeah dude i'm probably missing a bunch of other stuff but uh yeah i might pretty much every weekend is booked with a race the rest of the year and the only way i'll probably break that is if like something happens or like i can't get the Can't get the chafing in order or something like that.

But I would hate to...

Did I already tell this story at one point? I don't think so.

He had just turned 18 and wanted to run the Marine Corps Marathon with me.

There was a group of us that went.

He turned 18 the day before the race.

Uh, to finish off the list, CIM has 11,000 marathon runners.

Marine Corps Marathon has, like, 30,000.

I looked that up.

That's a ton.

We talk about competitiveness, and I've been blessed.

I did the Marine Corps Marathon, and I didn't do it on a hand cycle.

I wanted to do it in a push chair, but as a quadriplegic, I know 26 miles was not going to be kicking in, so I did it tandemly with a buddy of mine that is an ultramarathon runner, and we were able to compete in less than four hours on a hand team, but...

To watch those elite riders up front, some of these guys, man, you know, they send them out because these dudes were the greyhounds of the industry.

And I ran the last few miles with her because she was definitely having a tough time.

But at the end, I stopped at the bottom of the Iwo Jima Memorial, which it was, it was at, um, in DC, it was the Marine Corps marathon.

And I had a towel and I was like, I was doing this and I was watching her run up that hill.

My brother and sister were at the top.

Anyway, but she crosses the finish line.

And I remember that.

So for every mom that's crossed a finish line, whether it's, a marine corps marathon or whether it's starting a business or whether it's hosting a tv show or whatever or doing any job working at the library of congress which is where my mom worked and i knew her i knew her cubicle i know exactly but i when we watch our moms do something Wow.

We're proving like it's possible.
