Marin County Civic Center

I think this is absolutely fascinating, and once again just goes to show how tightly related modern transit is with the historic trains of the past that used this route before.

The next station is Marin Civic Center, which unfortunately I did not have time to photograph either, but the Civic Center itself is actually designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, and it is a very striking bit of modern architecture, if also still a bit massively suburbanized with a train station that's inconveniently far away, but what can you do? After going through a tunnel under a hill from Marin Civic Center, you get into the outskirts of San Rafael, traveling as a single track through these adorably tight vegetative alleys.

And then you finally reach downtown San Rafael, the original terminus of SMART before it was extended southward to the ferry terminal.

San Rafael is honestly a massively adorable little town that I really enjoyed staying in and would highly recommend as a day trip for anybody visiting the San Francisco area.
