And today, we're doing a great music segment that I like to usually call All Your Favorite Bands Suck, because I've been listening to music all my life and collecting some of the greatest, most consistent artists across genres, and I want to share with you some of my favorite bands.

Today we're going to be talking about Marilyn Manson and I'm fucking stoked because Marilyn is one of my favorite acts.

There are so many bands in the world that do not get the respect that they deserve.

And while the band we are going to talk about today has gotten plenty of respect in the rock and roll world, in the industrial world, the metal world, I really think the mainstream is missing out on the consistent might of Marilyn Manson.

He got a little inconsistent for a little while.

I'm not going to get too deep into the more recent records that he released.

I know Manson just a little bit, too.

He was very kind to me when I interviewed him back in the day on MTV2.

When I think it was like fifth grade, maybe sixth grade.

we got a cd to play backwards i think it was through the computer but we were playing marilyn manson's uh smells like children ep backwards creeped us the fuck out like oh no

because even if it doesn't say anything it still sounds really terrifying

I'm a little kind of dubious, if you will, when you have these kind of, I don't want to call them gimmicky bands because I'm a huge fan.

Rob Zombie fan you guys know this I've been to his house I love the man yeah I love these kind of shows but I remember going to see him this is years ago and it was at I believe it was at oh man maybe it was the fairgrounds I can't remember, but it was outside, and it was Marilyn Manson, and it was Rob Zombie again, and it could not have looked more hilarious because the sun was still out, and they were all in their Halloween costumes, and there were smoke bombs going off, and it just looked like a bunch of dead guys having a barbecue.

It

was missing some of the pizzazz, the showmanship.

Never, never.

And neither was

Marilyn Manson.

I still love Rob.

It's just to rattle off a few of the influential figures standing in Crowley's shadow.

You have Alfred Kinsey, Timothy Leary, The Beatles, Jimmy Page from Zeppelin, J.K. Rowling, Ozzy Osbourne, David Bowie, Marilyn Manson, Alan Moore, and the list goes on and on and on.

but we don't have to get into the full story of how Crowley received his book of the law from the entity called I was in Cairo in 1904, although it's a really fascinating story in a sinister way.

But what I'm hearing, what I'm interested in hearing you comment on is just how incredibly predictive Crowley and spirituality, his religion of Thelema is for 20th and 21st century spiritual trends.

Where he claims to be possessed by this entity called Rosie.

He's having these messianic, apocalyptic fantasies that are just... having grown up in the era too, I can see how he was sort of absorbing or reflecting in some ways, a lot of the pop culture thinking the world was going to end in 1996.

I mean, that's right out of, you know, 12 monkeys and the Marilyn Manson album, Antichrist superstar.

And it's, it's just really over the top.
