Epigraph to Japan.

The words are exactly those jotted down at the time and place that they profess to be, and therefore mirror as no rewritten phrases could the direct impression that that time and place made on me.

Japan is changing swiftly, and I saw things from a point of view that differs somewhat from any recorded, so that perhaps these daily impressions may have an interest for those who cannot visit Japan, and in the future for those who prefer facts to fair-sounding generalizations and beautifully elaborated theories.

My naturally roving instincts warmly supported the scheme, and my love of the East gave the prospect the warmth and color which only personal delight can lend to any place.

Right.

Mary Stopes wrote a book of love poems and sent them to Hitler in 1938 to be distributed amongst the beautiful youth of his country.

So when I say Mary Stopes was a Nazi...

She wasn't a member of the Nazi party, but she did send poetry to Hitler in 1938.

So, you know, we're up against the war here.
