So, yeah, those are the basic kind of like broad plot beats to make somebody understand the premise.

But I feel like just with this premise, you can interpret the events of this novel in a bunch of different tones.

The way Paper House does it is it interprets it as horror.

And that should come as no surprise that the director of this is Bernard Rose, who directed Candyman.

I'm reminded, you know, we just did a Henry Selick movie, but I can't help but, like, think about sometimes, like, the live-action segments from James and the Giant Peach, things like that.

That, you know, while this, not quite as fantastical, is drawing on some of that same kind of, like, odd production design and, you know, the British children's fiction kind of element of it.

This is based on a novel.

It was based on a novel by an author named Catherine Storr.

So small, and yet to me, super interesting.

Oh, this is based on the novel Marianne Dreams, written by Catherine Storr, and is written by Ruth Boswell, who's also the creator of Timeslip, and went on to produce The Tomorrow People.

She got a BAFTA nomination for one of her plays in The Shadows, a spooky series for kids, and went on to work on Mayberry, The Chief, The Uninvited... one of, honestly, the great unsung women of tele-fantasy.
