We don't know the whereabouts of the rest of the SLA membership, last rumored to be fanning out from San Francisco.

In other words, the SLA even now is still shrouded in mystery, much the same mystery that surrounded it late last year when the SLA first came to public attention by taking credit for the assassination of the Oakland Schools chief, Dr. Marcus Foster.

And you ask about the Hearst family in Hillsborough.

They assassinated Marcus Foster, who was a Black superintendent of Oakland Public Schools, and they also wounded his deputy superintendent, uh, his deputy superintendent, Robert Blackburn, and this murder alienated the SLA from the local radical community.

On November 6th, 1973, as Marcus left a school board meeting, SLA members ambushed him with cyanide-laced bullets.

Even worse, Marcus's murder intensified the search for Sinque and his associates.

On January 10th, 1974, founding member Russell Little and another prominent SLA recruit, Joseph Ramiro, were arrested during a traffic stop.

Police ultimately linked them to the SLA and to Marcus Foster's murder.

Though neither man had been at the scene of the shooting, they were still charged with first-degree murder.
