It was two years after War Brigade and two years before this next album called Metal Division that came out in January of 2020.

It was an act of self-reinvention that made him a template for anyone wanting to control their image.

Marc Bolan of T. Rex took Bowie's theatrics and added a swaggered, almost macho flair.

He wore satin suits and slick hair, and the music was pure hooky pop, fast but still catchy.

Their singles, like Hot Love, were three-minute bursts that could fill stadiums yet retained an edge.
