Mansur Yavaş

So in the Turkish example, there was a very public disagreement over whether Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who was the, um, the, the main figure, uh, in the opposition group that brought together the parties, uh, whether or not Kılıçdaroğlu would be the joint candidate.

And, uh, the, the second important party in the coalition, the leader of the party, Meral Akşener, openly preferred the mayor Istanbul, uh, Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, and Ankara Mayor Mansur Yavaş.

And this, this agreement eventually resolved, but publicly the damage was done.

Instead of communicating unity, uh, the opposition spent an important part of the campaign debating, debating who this candidate will be, uh, whether Kılıçdaroğlu or one of the two mayors.

And in Turkey, the CHP did something similar, but from inside it.

After the, um, fiasco of twenty twenty, uh, three defeat, the party congress elected a new leader, Özgür Özel, instead of Kılıçdaroğlu, who was also the joint candidate of, of the alliance.

And the party put forward figures like Ekrem İmamoğlu and Mansur Yavaş, who were proven election winners.

So in a way, the CHP also broke with its own recent past.
