No, not at all, because surrounding the city, clinging to the edges of these rivers as they meet the Atlantic Ocean, are dense, sprawling, thick mangroves.

So wetlands, swamps, mud.

Deep, biologically aggressive mud, and you really have to understand what a mangrove actually is functionally to understand the cultural movement that came out of it.

That makes it a fascinating border character.

It belongs to the story without fitting neatly into the main cast.

This also means the forest is sensitive to change.

Alter the water flow, sediment supply, or salt balance, and those living zones may shift with surprising speed, redrawing the coastal map.

One coastline can host several mangrove species in a delicate natural order.
