I thought maybe we could start by just like, take us back to the beginning, you know, what experiences shaped your entrepreneurial drive and ultimately led you to build and exit multiple companies?

Yeah, well, I appreciate that intro.

And just to double tap on what you just shared about maybe this is a bit of a different conversation for your community too.

It's an important one because there's two tracks to leadership, right? There's what we're doing, which is our strategy and our plan and the things that we're creating, our products.

And then there's the how we're doing it.

And most leaders, they resource the first one.

They spend a lot of time on the plan, the strategy, but they forget that it's equal importance in how we're doing that.

And so what would you say are some growth lessons? You were just talking about the gathering and a little bit about that, but I wonder if you have any stories about growth lessons or things that you experienced while building the gathering that surprised most CEOs in our audience.

But what do I do now?

No, no, no, no, not at all.

Like, I'm I want to be very clear.

Chasing enough is not about handing your ambition back.

It is about learning how to resource it properly.

And it's about noticing how, it's just, it's about noticing, sorry, someone was just calling me to go away.

It's really about noticing when we are catching ourselves in these patterns.

And

Let me le- let, let me take you back.

It's, uh, the, the year is 2017.

I have, uh, three businesses that I'm running at the time, multi seven-figure business, team of, uh, a dozen people.

One of those companies is a magazine.

You know, I've got a burn rate of $100,000 a month and, you know, a magazine that's got to get to print and trying to keep things alive.

And at the same time, my relationship with my now husband was on the rocks, and I feel like my life was very much so on fire in many different areas.

... help somebody spot the differences?

Yeah.

Yeah, I certainly didn't do any of my growth alone.

And I think that that was the most important part is, you know, I was running really fast in my life.

And it wasn't until I learned how to pause and really it was a global pandemic that forced me to pause where I finally was able to step back and say, wow, like this is the, you know, I've been running so fast and what am I running from and where am I running to? And All the energies behind that, you know, it was that was a gift for me and sort of being able to zoom out.

And in that pause and in that acknowledgement, which, you know, you are so an embodiment of this as well.

And the invitations that you give to your community all the time for like journaling and reflection.

Right.

What do you hope people will leave feeling when they put your book down?

and i received a phone call um actually it was a facebook message from someone from my father's account saying your father is in jail in columbia and he needs your help So I go into full reaction mode.

What the heck? Who is this person? They're talking to me in Spanish.

I have no idea what's going on, trying to incorporate with Google Translate and interpret what is happening.

We pack the car.

We get in the car.

We start driving home.

remember those.

That resonates so strongly with me because over the years, you know, what we've kind of recognized is that in a world of AI and robots, your [laughs] greatest competitive advantage is your humanity.

Absolutely.

And we, and we...

You know, it's interesting because there's obviously, like, I am pro-AI.

I realize that there is, you know, there's a lot of other voices and things out there.

Here's why I'm pro-AI.

One, it's not going anywhere, and we must future-proof our leadership and we must future-proof ourselves so that we can keep pace with that and understand and learn and, and, and realize like, how it can really benefit us.

Yeah.

Mm-hmm.

And all of a sudden, there's these chain of messages, and it's from my dad's Facebook account, and, but it's not my dad.

And it's somebody informing me that my dad is in prison, and he needs my help, and he's been arrested, and he's in jail in Colombia.

And they're speaking all in Spanish, and I'm trying to make out these words, and I'm of course like, "Holy shit, what the h- what the heck is going on here?" Like, using Google Translate, trying to figure it out.

And I'm like, "We gotta get out of here.

Pack up our shit." We get in the car, and this whole drive home, I'm trying to translate and make sense of what is going on.

And we get back, and I've now, you know, figured this out, and I have instructions on how to send money to Colombia to, uh, try and figure out how to send my dad some basic necessities.
