Man from the Deep River

All right, so the Italian cannibal film boom that Cannibal Holocaust has become the poster child for developed from a style of pictures called Mondo Films.

This all began to resonate in the underground film community after the release of the 1972 picture Man from the Deep River, directed by Umberto Lenzi.

And of course, Diodato himself had released a film called The Last Cannibal World in 1977, which, like Cannibal Holocaust, was seized by the authorities during the video nasty craze.

However, this film would also be the reason he was hired to direct Cannibal Holocaust, with Western distribution seeking similar output, or worse.

75's Eyeball, which is a Giallo film with its own following, and I think has some implied eyeball violence.

And it's important to note that, yeah, he's widely credited with creating the Italian cannibal exploitation subgenre with the 1972 film Man from the Deep River.

That title, that just sounds like a Western or something, but it's just full jungle cannibal movie.

That could be a drama.

The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover, uh, that was a good movie I wa- I watched.

Um, there's the entire cannibal cycle of movies f- in, uh, Italian horror movies, like Cannibal Ferox, Make Them Die Slowly, Cannibal Holocaust, Man From Deep River.

All those...

There was a big, you know, The Green Inferno was kind of a, a pastiche of those movies.
