Mallee

We've had a bit of a trough, I mean, as probably people are aware, that came through yesterday and overnight.

brought a couple of thunderstorms up into the Mallee in particular and a few sort of chunky showers through some of the western districts down around Coleraine actually topping our list of rainfalls 13.5 millimetres through to 9am this morning Whelpy Up, almost the same, 13.4.

So we'll have to see that.

Coleraine Hospital is a manual one, so that'll be quality checked.

In this episode, we're going back to the soil amelioration workshop that was held in June.

The workshop brought together farmers and researchers to share their experiences, discuss what they're learning about soil amelioration and explore what it could mean for Mallee's farming systems.

... um, in Virginia, um, in the Adelaide Plains, and then we move out to the Riverland and the Mallee, um, you know, come sort of first or second week of December, just in time for Christmas.

Mm-hmm.

Um, and, you know, with Australian, you know, weather, um, it's quite hot, it's quite dry.

Tell us a little bit about what happens in the context of getting those, that beautiful produce from the farms to the consumer.

Definitely.

So, um, like I mentioned earlier, we, we start harvesting the new season, so we call it new season spring crop, um, in late October, November, in the Adelaide Plains, and then, um, for potatoes, and then we move to the Riverland and the Mallee-

So I'm just going to ask her to remove the reflection on the Minister regarding the first part of the question, rephrase the question, as the Manager was indicating, about what the Minister is responsible for.

Out there in the Mallee, Gerald's name was attached to Nobel speculation.

An extraordinary body of work, but The Plains is a beauty of a novel and I'd just like to keep it in everyone's minds.

It's not to everyone's taste, but my goodness, it's a beautiful book.

Let's not forget dear old Joseph Furphy either with such his life and salute to everybody down there in Shepparton.

And it just goes to show you don't have to come from the centre.

Murnane out there and the Wimmera Mallee and Furphy who spent most of his life in regional Victoria.

This is where literature was written.

So the further you go north, the better the season is.

And especially in Western Victoria, the Wimber and Mallee are unbelievable.

They've had above average soil temps all the way through and above average rainfall.

So all Western Victoria from Warrnambool up to Mildura is having an exceptional year.

A few blokes have said in the Mallee that once in a lifetime crop, once a lifetime season, they've got to get it off first.

But everything looks pretty good.
