Malibu Rising

Mm-hmm

... to Malibu- Malibu Rising.

I can see that.

I can see that.

That was probably my favourite one of hers, I think.

She also wrote Malibu Rising and Carrie Soto is

back.

So maybe we start first, Josh.

So I think similar to you, I've read The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo.

I've read Daisy Jones and the Sixth.

And I've also read Malibu Rising.

Daisy Jones and the Six was definitely my favourite of those.

I have two picks inspired by Lauren's story.

The first is Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid.

This is a fun and lighthearted read, which you will need to offset my second pick, which is Fun Home by Alison Bechdel.

First, in Malibu Rising, we have siblings throwing an epic annual summer party at which their house burns down.

The story is about the relationship with their ne'er-do-well father, a famous musician.

It's set in 1983, and it has flashbacks to the 50s.

Yeah.

I then read Malibu Rising and I thought it was pretty crap, to be honest.

Was that the tennis one?

No, that was Keri Soto.

Malibu Rising was set in the 80s in Malibu.

And it was about, you know, the main character was like a sister taking care of her siblings and she became a model.

It was just like, you know, they're partying.

Oh, Keri Soto, who's actually a main character in this book, kind of a side character in this book.

We have Malibu Rising following the children of McRiva.

He is in, I think, all of the TJR books.

He is a piece of shit.

Yeah.

He, you know, everyone's like, oh, McRiva, McRiva.

I'm like, yeah, until you read Malibu Rising and you're like, you horrible father.

I've always loved this cover because it has all of the four kids on it.

[items clanking] Now, this was not the first book of Taylor Jenkins Reid that I have read.

By the time I reached for Carrie Soto, I had already read The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, Daisy Jones & the Six, and Malibu Rising.

I would strongly recommend any of them, and actually, Carrie makes a small appearance as a character in Malibu Rising.

Taylor Jenkins Reid is one of those authors where a lot of her books Occur in the same, you know, universe, so there are some little mentions or pop-ups.

Um, I think the band Daisy Jones & The Six gets mentioned in Carrie Soto, and it's just fun little Easter eggs that authors do.
