Malazan Book of the Fallen

Hello and welcome back to the Page Burners discussion of Malazan Book of the Fallen, where we've been reading through all the books of Stephen Erickson and so far just one book of Ian Esselmont.

We were currently nearing the end of Bone Hunters.

We will be discussing chapters 19 through 21 tonight, just chapter 22 next week.

So I think that's pretty much it about Banaskar and Taishun.

We also see Mapo and Spite in Chapter 19.

And I guess the spirit of Aerosol is with them and it's... speeding up their ship as well as the Malazan ships.

I think that's hinted at multiple times.

But I think still it's just a thing that's happening and we don't have an explanation for that yet in these chapters.

I've been this far.

I'm going to take it, take it all the way to the end.

If you've spent any time around epic fantasy readers, you've probably heard some version of all of those statements.

Somehow millions of people have still managed to read Malazan Book of the Fallen.

Including me.

And Zach is almost halfway through the series.

But our real question today is not how many checkboxes it has.

You know, we both love what we've read so far of Malison.

I've read all of Malazan Book of the Fallen.

I'm reading another Malazan book right now.

He says very bluntly, "No Malazan Book of the Fallen, no Black Company."

Yep.

And then we have another commenter, John, who simply suggests Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell.

Yeah.

If your definition of a perfectly written dark fantasy requires gritty, unapologetic realism, leaving off The Black Company is a massive oversight.

And what about Steven Erikson's Malazan Book of the Fallen?

Malazan is arguably the most ambitious fantasy series ever written.

They, they were kind of shitty people, as it turns out, but doesn't destroy my enjoyment of the books.

But I'm right now book four of, uh, Malazan Book of the Fallen.

Oh, cool.

And oh, that one, that one's gotten slow.
