Makalu

In the Serpini Col, there is a Spanish person who is working there.

Where is this place? Sherpini Khol is a famous road that passes between Makalu and Solu.

One of the Spaniards is stuck there.

That's how the government started SOS.

The other climbing and trekking regions of Nepal are open.

The 8,000-meter peak in the post-monsoon, the autumn season, is just beginning now on Manaslu, Makalu, and beyond.

So these things are still taking place, business as usual.

These include the Everest region, the Annapurna Circuit, Mustang, the Dolpo region, Kanchenjunga.

Then there's Kanchenchanga at 8,586 meters, the highest peak in India and the furthest east of the 8,000ers.

The fourth is Lhotse, followed by Makalu, then Cho Oyu, Dholagiri 1, Manaslu, Nanga Parbat and Annapurna 1, which are all also in the Himalayas.

Then there's three in Karakoram, Gashobram 1, Broad Peak and Gashobram 2.

And the final on the list is back in the Himalayas called Shishapangamma, which is 8,027 meters high.

Each of these mountains are treacherous and offer their own unique, fascinating challenge to mountaineers.

Take Makalu, famous for its sharp, four-sided pyramid shape, or Nanga Parbat, which features the largest rock or ice wall in the world, known as RuPaul Face, Broad Peak is named after its broad, 1.5-kilometre-long summit ridge, while Gashabram 1 is also known as a hidden peak owing to its extreme remoteness and the surrounding mountains that cover it.

And why are they so hard? Well, the fact is, because they're all over 8,000 meters, they're in death zones.

In these death zones, there is so little oxygen that the human body basically can no longer properly akymatize.

It was made of prefabricated wood, cylindrical in shape, 23 by 10 feet in diameter, very well insulated and painted silver.

The mountain climbers intended to ascend Mount Makalu without oxygen.

They didn't succeed, although they did reach the summit of Ama Dablam.

Meanwhile, Pugh's scientific project was considered a great success, seen now as one of the definitive studies on high altitude physiology.

They managed to collect more evidence than any other expedition, and even though they were eager to prove the existence of the Yeti, they did not hesitate to debunk stuff when the opportunity arose.

That's the sort of expedition I like.

An artifact dubbed the Makalu hand supposedly belonged to a Yeti, but the scientists on the team showed that it was feline, most likely coming from a snow leopard.

In 1958, they received word that someone had shot and killed one of the creatures in Mustang, which is a district in Nepal.

You are looking at a horizon dominated by five of the tallest peaks in the world, standing shoulder to shoulder in the ice.

Makalu, Hosei Choyu, Shishabama,

And right in the center, dwarfing them all, is Everest.

The road takes you down to Rongbok Base Camp, where the oxygen drops to barely half of what it is at sea level.
