Preston ByersHOST
40:32
I don't think that is too big of a, an ask.
Preston ByersHOST
40:35
But we have seen that the, what Activision or the CDL or the CWL or MLG, what they do is that they take that first week or the first two weeks, and then they come up with a rule set.
Preston ByersHOST
40:47
And I think, like, that's really stupid, because that just wastes so much time.
Preston ByersHOST
40:50
Like, those are the most valuable week or two weeks of the entire year for Call of Duty, and they just kinda waste that.
Preston ByersHOST
45:49
Like, there's a reason that people tune into the tournaments.
Preston ByersHOST
45:51
You know? People wanna see tournament action, and that is the basis of Call of Duty, not necessarily league matches.
Preston ByersHOST
45:56
Like, I think really, like, MLG was kinda like the first league match thing where it was, like, extensive, and I remember, like, not giving a fuck about, like, the MLG Pro League.
Preston ByersHOST
46:06
Like, I don't remember caring about that at all.
KeithG077HOST
6:46
Initially competing as Ambush, the team was quickly signed by Team EnVyUs.
KeithG077HOST
6:50
And EnVyUs made history at MLG Orlando by becoming both the first team to defeat Optic Gaming before the winners finals, and the first team to sweep Optic in their three to zero victory in the winners semifinals.
KeithG077HOST
7:02
They were defeated by Splyce in the winners finals however, and Optic took advantage of the rematch opportunity in the elimination finals, defeating EnVyUs four to two and sending them home with a third place.
KeithG077HOST
7:14
At MLG Columbus, EnVyUs started off similarly strong, sweeping their pool and qualifying for the Halo World Championship 2018.
BradSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
12:11
However, I'm more into e-sports, so we're gonna throw a Halo question at you, keep you guessing here.
BradSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
12:16
In competitive Halo 2, what was the primary starting weapon used in MLG tournaments? The DMR, the battle rifle, the SMG, or the assault rifle?
JaymoHOST
12:28
I feel like knowing how competitive Halo 2 ran and how much the battle rifle was a staple, I almost feel like it's like starting paintball with, like, your standard paintball rifle.
JaymoHOST
12:40
So I'm gonna guess the battle rifle, which I believe was B.
JoshHOST
56:47
But again, there's another week of matches, so we'll see what happens.
JoshHOST
56:50
What if MLG comes back next year? Tetsuo, they're not.
JoshHOST
56:52
Like, no. They're not, no.
JoshHOST
56:58
They don't have a new game, dude.
Tactical RabHOST
16:09
I will say from what I, my point was gonna be, as like a European COD fan, what the CDL has done well, and to Don's point about the matches taking forever and double best of sevens lasting forever, like if you're living in the rest of the world and like especially Europe and you're trying to watch Halo even today, good luck.
Tactical RabHOST
16:30
Because the games, they go so late because the games start late, which used to be how it was in like the MLG era.
Tactical RabHOST
16:36
I will give credit to the CDL for this because I remember watching Black Ops 4 league matches, whatever was going on in BF 4-
Don DottsHOST
16:43
Yeah
LennonHOST
23:09
That was a massive complaint that people had specifically with 4 and 5, that they went in that Call of Duty-esque multiplayer, what is it? I was going to say MVP.
LennonHOST
23:18
MLG.
LennonHOST
23:18
MLG direction.
LennonHOST
23:20
Yeah.
LennonHOST
23:20
But who knows? And I'm also curious, I wonder how much cross-pollinization there is because, you know, it's quite common for people to jump from studio to studio, whether it's opening up their own studios or whether it's like, hey, this is, you know, this new senior kind of position or opportunity in this other, you know, under the stewardship of some other place.
Michael AnteHOST
79:10
There are a couple of things that people don't remember, don't watch or haven't ever watched.
Michael AnteHOST
79:15
Major League Gaming.
Michael AnteHOST
79:16
activision owns the rights to major league major league gaming and they also own the rights to um well microsoft owns the rights to activision and when you own the rights to major league gaming you also own the rights to a lot of those old franchises i don't know for certain like who owns final boss or who owns instinct but those were copyrighted trademark names within that league um And it's really, really cool to see.
Michael AnteHOST
79:42
So there could be a reality, especially with the most recent release of Gears.
Michael AnteHOST
79:47
Although I've seen a Gears pro coach lose his mind over this.
Thomas PaparattoGUEST
27:26
My buddies from school were the ones who told me like, "Listen, you can make some, like you can make some side money playing some CoD." Like they host like tournaments and stuff.
Thomas PaparattoGUEST
27:33
My, my, my friend from school, he told me about like MLG tournaments and like all this stuff.
Thomas PaparattoGUEST
27:37
I started watching like Scump videos, Nadeshot videos, like stuff like that.
Thomas PaparattoGUEST
27:41
Um, and then I kinda like that competitive energy that I had, I kinda brought that into the, uh, to the CoD world.
JoshHOST
73:06
Like I said, I just feel for the folks that were impacted.
JoshHOST
73:09
Chuck says, my optimism is since Activision owns MLG, COD, and Halo under one roof again, but I'm hopeful.
JoshHOST
73:16
What's up, Collect? Welcome back.
JoshHOST
73:17
Good to see you.
MorganHOST
9:53
say what you will about call of duty uh you know i certainly have at times the modern warfare games for me pretty much always hit especially their single-player campaigns and i i would argue that activision especially infinity ward is right up there with blizzard with some of their cinematics and things like that and these scenes that they showed with mads uh in the cinematics just they look so good um i played the beta the the closed beta i believe Modern Warfare 4, I was pretty surprised by how heavy it feels in comparison to even like Battlefield, which always was kind of the clunkier game, I think, where Call of Duty has evolved into this like kind of twitchy shooter.
MorganHOST
10:35
They seem to be pushing against that a little bit in Modern Warfare 4, even though obviously the MLG pros are always going to find a way to still play that more arcade-y style of game.
MorganHOST
10:46
And that heavier feeling in the multiplayer makes me feel like that will translate as well, especially to single player, to the campaign.
MorganHOST
10:55
And that should lead to some pretty fun single player antics.
