And really, the wipes are just double duty, so if something spills, if someone's face is gross, uh, you have a different way to sanitize and clean all in one.
Daniele RobbinsHOST
14:22
This next one is a big one that people forget, and that is your MagicBand+ charger.
Daniele RobbinsHOST
14:31
So if you ordered MagicBand+ for your Disney vacation, they're going to come in.
Daniele RobbinsHOST
14:38
You do need to charge those up.
Daniele RobbinsHOST
14:41
And if you're doing a longer trip, more than really a day or two, you definitely want to bring those MagicBand chargers with you, uh, to charge up each night at your hotel.
Daniele RobbinsHOST
14:50
Now, do not fret.
Daniele RobbinsHOST
14:52
If you don't have your charger, the MagicBand uncharged can still, like, scan you into the park and have your tickets linked and all of that good stuff as long as you have it connected to your My Disney Experience app.
Daniele RobbinsHOST
15:06
Um, but it's just not gonna do the fancy things.
Culture CasinoGUEST
114:46
I saw this coming all the way back then.
Culture CasinoGUEST

'Cause in 2012, they greenlit a project called Next Gen, and that was spearheaded by Tom Staggs and the other fella that they, they got rid of, they fired shortly afterwards 'cause it exceeded the billion dollar price tag originally they started with and got to two billion, which gave you MagicBands, full park tracking, uh, ride photos that, that followed you, and all these other things that it was supposed to give, in addition to turning, like, what looked like a watch band into your room key and your payment method.
Culture CasinoGUEST
115:18
So literally, they gave you a MagicBand, and it was everything.
Culture CasinoGUEST
115:22
And it also contained three FastPasses.
Beth FlippoGUEST
15:33
It-- We really are trying to make this a fun experience.
Beth FlippoGUEST
15:37
And my-- One of the first people I hired here is my chief strategy officer, worked at Disney World, and he created the Magic Band for Walt Disney World.
Beth FlippoGUEST
15:45
He led that team.
Beth FlippoGUEST
15:47
And I just knew I had to hire the, him when I met him because there's that element of magic with new tech, and I wanted to make sure that we didn't lose that, like we didn't make it too techy and scary, like people see the hu- the humanoid ro- robots right now.
KirkHOST
34:56
It's like, line up.
KirkHOST
34:58
This is what the, the MagicBand was great for, you know?
Christian RainwaterHOST
35:01
Yeah.
Christian RainwaterHOST
35:01
RIP.
MaddieGUEST
9:35
... okay, like, today, I'm g- gonna try and post as accurately as possible, and let's see how many times I get it right.
MaddieGUEST
9:44
Because we do have ways of g- uh, getting, like, a return time, basically, and at Disney, it's all based on, like, RFID, so MagicBands or-
LeeHOST
9:55
Okay.
LeeHOST
9:55
Yeah
Jason DodgeHOST
36:45
And I, and I get it, right? There's nostalgia here for some people, right? 'Cause it's like you get off the plane, you go to the corner of MCO where it's all Disney.
Jason DodgeHOST
36:53
You get your MagicBands, you tap in, and your adventure starts right there at the airport, and you don't even have to get your luggage.
Jason DodgeHOST
36:58
And you hop on this magical bus, and it takes you to your Disney vacation.
Jason DodgeHOST
37:02
It was definitely a pre-vacation, like when Disney was king about the preemption of your vacation by sending you MagicBands at 30 days, and the whole process leading up, which Disney's sorely lacking right now, right? But, like, it was just the last thing you got for free from Disney before you got there.
Jason DodgeHOST
37:21
And I, it w- I, I get why people loved it, but as a utility, it was pretty bad.
Phil SchoenHOST
37:26
Yes.
DrovenHOST
22:22
The second park day, they used one credit at Magic Kingdom and it was at breakfast time.
DrovenHOST
22:27
Now at Disney, we have something called Magic Bands.
DrovenHOST
22:30
Magic Bands are worn by the guests and act as a room key.
DrovenHOST
22:33
Park ticket, credit card, dining reservation payment, fast pass, and more.
DrovenHOST
22:40
It took some work, but I was finally able to look up this family's fast pass history.
DrovenHOST
24:32
There are photographs all over the parks and cameras in all the rides, and with Memory Maker, the photos are all free.
DrovenHOST
24:39
They automatically get added to a guest's Disney account when the system knows their picture's been taken, and the system always knows.
DrovenHOST
24:47
Everyone's whereabouts are always known with the Magic Bands.
Seth KuberskyGUEST
77:25
Um, but, uh, yeah, I, I, I think, I think the days of running around with your smartphone, um...
Seth KuberskyGUEST
77:33
And we also saw the MagicBands just never really took off in Disneyland the way they did in Disney World.
JeffHOST
77:39
Yeah.
Seth KuberskyGUEST
77:39
A lot of that is because of the hotel infrastructure.
speaker_0HOST

The difference is at the attractions themselves.
speaker_0HOST
0:25
Cast members now stand at the ride entrances and scan your MagicBand or ticket to check that you're eligible for Early Entry.

If you're not, you can wait near the ride or explore the land until the park opens to everyone at 8:00 AM.
speaker_0HOST

That matters most for Pandora.
DrewGUEST
19:28
Yeah.
Brett RutherfordHOST
19:29
We could use our Magic Bands, and so we got in.
Brett RutherfordHOST
19:32
Um, well, you used your Magic Band, and we got in.
DrewGUEST
