Magic & Bird: A Courtship of Rivals

yeah

yeah you know not the unique guys like i say like a you know dr j charles barkley was you know six five power guy uh you know you just wouldn't see that now but it's fun to see and i mean he was great you know and i think i think you know bird bird magic were so unique when they came in because you had a six nine point guard you never had that before And then a 6'9", 6'10", small forward in Bird that you'd call a point forward.

Well, you never had that before.

Was there much, you know, because you're very good friends with Larry, was there a true hatred between them? Or was it just a rivalry of wanting to be the best player in the league?

And that's one thing I think that David Stern learned from that, realizing they had really screwed up with Maravich, not really utilizing it.

for the league's benefit.

And when he became commissioner, you know, with Bird Magic, he wasn't gonna lose that.

He saw the ratings in the college games when those two played.
