Madge Sinclair

Also, some quick trivia here.

Geordi's mom is played by Madge Sinclair and his dad is played by Ben Vereen, who both of them starred with LeVar Burton in the miniseries Roots.

So it's intentionally a big Roots reunion here.

Love that.

When the starship Saratoga encounters what we soon learn to be is a probe.

Also, a wonderful performance, sadly short-lived, by Madge Sinclair, who plays the captain of that vessel.

And as you mentioned, Kirk and our core crew are exiled on vulcan and getting ready to head back to earth and that's been prefaced by a meeting of starfleet higher-ups and the klingons engaging in some revisionist history

yeah

So there you go.

Where do we even begin? Yeah.

Where do we begin? And again, Madge Sinclair, what a beautiful, understated, powerful performance.

I could watch her.

But ultimately, we're talking about a movie that is squarely in the wheelhouse of this podcast being a politics movie where, once again... fu stephen miller this is woke captain kirk saving the whales saving the planet saving the environment saving the federation and you know the first one of the first uh starfleet captains that we see on screen is a black woman captain and in fact the first generally speaking the first woman captain to ever appear in star trek So there you go.

Where do we even begin? Yeah.

I could have watched her.

Nikita Kalam Harris and Maura Kelly as Nala.

Madge Sinclair as Sarabi.

Rowan Atkinson as Zazu.

Jim Cummings as Ed and some additional voices.

I was floored the first time I heard him.

Yeah.

Madge Sinclair of Roots and Coming to America joined to voice Sarabi.

And the original plan was to have Shenzi and Banzai, the two main hyenas, to be voiced by Cheech and...

She's so good.

She is played by Madge Sinclair, who was mostly like a theater actress.

By the way, also Black, which means that [laughs] Matthew-

Yeah

Well, Dave, this is your pick, and, and to be honest, this is probably something that I should have picked in a bygone era because it's around that sweet spot of Mr. Burt Reynolds, Mr. Smokey and the Bandit, Hal Needham, Dave.

But it's a, it's an iconic movie that stars Mr. Kris Kristofferson, Ali MacGraw, Burt Young, Dave, Paulie, uh, Madge Sinclair, but Ernest Borgnine as well as Dirty Lila Cop.

So we are gonna be reviewing from 1978, the year that I was born, Dave, Convoy.

So I, oh, can't believe I've never watched this, I must admit, 'cause this is so in that wheelhouse of movies that I love.
