Madagascar National Parks

And I'm just reading...

The descriptions that were coming from what was then ANGAP and is now Madagascar National Parks, it was really clear that some of the claims that were being made to justify park establishment were a little off or maybe a bit misplaced coming from some very kind of antiquated ideas about livelihoods and migration and things like that, quite pejorative against people who were living in the region.

And then at the same time, the other thing that was being justified was gradual plans to develop mining concessions specifically for titanium, not the sort of titanium that they used to build airplanes and metal hips, but the sorts of titanium that go into making toothpaste and paint white that are mined in mineral sands, basically.

So you have these two kind of conflicting models of development, one development through conservation, protecting this prized dry forest environment.
