Macintosh Plus

It just looks cool, doesn't it? That one above your shoulder just looks cool.

Yeah, the old Mac Plus is just one of those classic designs.

It'll never age.

Love it, love it.

And the promise there was you can just draw these cards and you could put a button on it and you could make the button do something and it could do a calculation.

And I remember with my first Mac Plus, I'm like, oh, this is so cool.

I can build computer programs without being able to write code.

And of course, no, it didn't work.

Yeah.

But yeah, I had a Mac Plus probably by the late 80s.

And for the most part, I did my gaming on my Commodore 64 and my Amiga.

But for some reason, I ended up getting the pinball constructors up on my Mac.

And then he breaks.

In 2020, taking inspiration from Andreas, I started recording my own videos programming on an 8 MHz Macintosh 512KE, later a Macintosh Plus, in Think C 5 IDE.

I had never actually used a classic Macintosh before, and I wanted to learn what it was like to program for them as one would have 40 years ago.

I made a rule for myself that I would only write code on the Macintosh itself, typing everything on its Mac M0110 keyboard.

... for, for the UI.

But yeah, I had a Mac Plus probably by the late '80s, uh, and for the most part I did my gaming on my Commodore 64 and my Amiga.

Um, but for some reason I ended up getting the Pinball Construction Set on my Mac, um, and that worked, that worked great, um, you know, because, you know, the, the UI was, was, was super s- super slick.

Um, and I remember also kinda getting that joy, which I think was a, um, a precursor to modding games, of sort of, like, misusing it-

Jobses next venture was NeXT an elegant workstation that never achieved commercial scale but birthed the NextStep operating system.

That focus highlighted founder-market fit.

He had deep knowledge of teacher frustrations and school budgets.

It was just this little tower.

It's a Macintosh Plus and it's actually here in the exhibition.

because it didn't work i became fascinated with how to make it work and i started to pull it to bits and try and figure out how to make it work it actually took me 40 years to figure out how to get this thing back up and running but in that time the skill set that i actually managed to get It did.

It kickstarted an entire career in computing because I was literally pulling electronics apart all the time and soldering things and tinkering with electronics throughout that entire period.

Nostalgia.

That's a big one.

Because obviously, again, people coming in and seeing things like when you saw the Macintosh Plus and you go...
