Machine Head

And my mother goes, "Can you do it without all the blood?" [laughs] And I was like, "Yeah, absolutely." Um, so that's when I found out what it was, and that's when my ear started going towards bass.

And then I started putting on all the records that I grew up, was growing up listening to, like, uh, Machine Head by Deep Purple, and, uh, Kiss Alive.

I mean, the bass is so out front on those records.

And then realized, wow, my ear's actually been always going to the bass, you know? And I started on bass.

[laughs] I really wish I still had it, 'cause I could only imagine how cool it would sound.

Um, and, you know, I painted it four times and did all the stupid stuff, and just learned every Ramones song, every Kiss song.

I made my best attempt at learning every Deep Purple song off of Machine Head.

And, um, yeah, a- and I knew I wanted to do that.

because an interpreter came in reading off a list of questions because the journalist couldn't speak English.

And one of the questions was, what's your favorite album? And I said, Machine Head.

And then she went out the door and came back in as if she'd never been there and was reintroduced.

And my name is so-and-so, blah, blah, blah, blah.

And so one of the questions was, what's your favorite album? And I said, Fireball.

And she just went to pieces and collapsed completely and eventually said, well, admitted she had been in the room earlier.

But you said for a different magazine that Machine Head was your favorite.

I said that was over half an hour ago.

Like...

I've always been fascinated by that concept and kind of Deep Purple was trying to do that with Machine Head, if the place hadn't burned down, was kind of get that live recording for their studio album.

And one of my favorite bands, Wolfpack last year, I think it was last year, released their new album and it was all live.

It was all brand new songs.

From Machine Head and then Live in Japan and then.

Yeah, but when did Machine Head come out? That was in the 70s.

Yeah, but I'm like before

And I think hearing Linkin Park.

And funnily enough, it was during Machine Head's kind of new metal era.

And I really wanted a Machine Head album for Christmas.

And my nan went out and got me, bless her, Machine Head by Deep Purple.

instead of which then yeah very quickly kind of course corrected me into uh classic heavy metal and i never haven't looked back since so yeah thank you nan for getting that one wrong

yes yeah is that like away from the burning red and into the purple then yeah um and back at back at the start how did green lung come together
