Machiasport

Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.

This takes place in Machiasport, Maine specifically.

Ever been?

I've never even been to New England, anywhere in New England.

They were able to prove Trista's whereabouts the night, um, of the disappearance, so the night of the 16th into the 17th.

They knew that she had, in fact, driven past Waterville while trying to go to Machiasport, Maine, um, but from what I have seen, they stated she only drove past the exit.

Like, she was on the highway and simply drove past Waterville.

She never actually went into Waterville.

Trista did say that she had planned on trying to stop by Waterville to see Ayla on her way back from Machiasport, but obviously she never got the chance to do that.

And I'm assuming authorities were able to corroborate all of this information, and they moved on, because it was, like, this little snippet that they were really focused on Trista, and then everything moved an entirely different direction.

The following day, the 18th of December, FBI agents, along with neighbors and volunteers and local police, all set out yet again to search for Ayla.

And I didn't really know much about Maine at that point or have any plans to go there.

But I did find that after that summer, I... traveled to Maine, and was interested in wooden boat building, and eventually was in Machiasport when I was working for the Outward Bound School, but never really quite got free to go visit Bill.

But it wasn't until 2003 that I finally got to meet Bill, and he was in Damariscotta, Maine, where I was I had moved to Maine and was living in Bristol, Maine, which is very close to Damariscotta.

And he was doing a book signing at the local bookshop in the village of Damariscotta.
