Mac Powell

I had to hold back the tears on that last show.

It was with Mac Powell of NewSong.

Mac from Third Day, who's a great guy.

So it was NewSong.

And I like to say we were a five-year overnight success because we definitely had our years of where there was nothing glorious to it.

I don't like to say it was years of struggle because even in those early years, right from the beginning – i felt like there was something special yeah and it was never like oh it's a struggle because there's only 25 people here it was like we get to play for 25 people so i hear sometimes people talk about those early years you know and it was like man it was a joy but but by 1996 we got signed and then had really rapid success our singer mac powell just has an incredible voice an incredibly gifted songwriter And as soon as people heard that voice, man, it took off.

And so it took a little while as we were kind of like rock music at the time.

And it's wild for people to remember this.

What's one relationship that's changed your life in the past 25, 30 years.

Well, I'll give two.

I mean, I think the first that comes to mind is Mac Powell, our singer, just as someone that as I was four years younger than him, I think now we've all caught up.

But I was four years younger than him, a little bit older.

He says the Son of Man will be raised again on the third day.

And then we made a joke about how Mac Powell has the voice of an angel in the band.

Third Day was one of the greatest worship bands of the late 90s, early 2000s.

Like, when it's on the air, I think people know, "Oh, I know that voice.

I know who that is." Like, the, your favorite singers tend to have that where, you know, it's like, like when Mac Powell started singing a Third Day song, immediately, like one note, you knew who that was.
