John Harrison, which I am reading on recommendation of my spouse and have not personally read, so I cannot speak to its quality, but I think it has some interesting connections to Atrocity Exhibition, and I'll be interested in talking about that in a couple weeks.

But I'm always also very, I want to be sort of cautious about that because I was always very clear that I was writing in a tradition myself that was maybe slightly more occulted than what you could sort of call the mainstream fantasy tradition, but was by no means something I'd invented.

And so the question of, you know, so a lot of those kind of precursors that were very important to me, people like Mervyn Peake and so on, And M. John Harrison this year, a booker, finally a booker longlistee, have also become much more kind of culturally present in a way that, you know, I think those shifts are very often

as much about

reorientations to the past as they are to do with newness.

And I think it does kind of keep you connected to the author.

I was listening to an interview with M. John Harrison and Julia Armfield, and I really admire Julia Armfield's work.

And listening to her almost become like you know, a student in awe of John Harrison's work was so nice to hear because you think, well, I really admire your work and now I'm seeing you react that same way towards this author, so now I want to read their work.

It's really nice.
