LZ4

I think this is a big blow.

The default toast compression change to LZ4 has been reverted because it was missing some support in the build farm.

Non-text output formats for pgdumpall.

JSON table on error cascading.

And that can help you a lot there.

By default, ZFS uses LZ4 compression, but you can opt to one of the heavier compressors like ZStandard.

Basically, if LZ4 will give you 3x compression, then ZStandard will give you 4x.

So that'll give you that little bit more.

And that can help.

And then starting with ZFS 2.3 and later, so especially if you're on Ubuntu 2604, you'll have this.

you can use the ZFS rewrite command to basically troll through an existing dataset and say, rewrite all this data and compress it with the new compressor.

So you can enable, you know, switch your compression from on or LZ4, the default, to ZCenter-3 or even ZCenter-5 or something like that.

So if this has been tuned, it sounds like you're going to have to double it when you upgrade to Postgres 19.

And lastly, the default compression changes from PGLZ to LZ4.

And then it goes through the sea of different changes for Postgres 19 that you can read through in order to prepare for it.
