And I also saw the stricken look on the faces of people who had lost everything in that fire.

And so to open your communities, to make people feel as comfortable as possible, whether it's from people from Clinton, Okanagan Indian Band, Lytton, Lytton First Nation, again, the trauma, can you imagine? Fraser Canyon, related to the Boston Bar Fire, Incredibly important work was done.

So quick shout out to rural, rural BC, small rural BC, friend of the pod, Lytton mayor Denise O'Connor is running for reelection.

I noticed in the great village of Lytton, anything in the small places and Bergs and Hamlets that you've noticed, Richard?

Well, it's not that small, but I'm excited for my friend Tom Shipitka in Cranbrook.

So he is attempting to make his return to politics, the former MLA.

Uh, I'm a family doctor and former ER doctor.

Uh, I live and work in Lytton, BC.

It's a small, mostly First Nations community in the southern interior of British Columbia, and I've been there since 1993.

So don't make me do the math.

So you...

And you're-- Are you the only doctor in, in Lytton?

I'm the only doctor that lives in that town.

But, you know, we had Dr. Charles Hoff, who I'm sure you're well aware of, at our last press conference.

And he said, you know, I actually had, let's say, here's a guy that, you know, had a community of First Nations in Linton, B.C., He worked with 1,100 people.

He's known these people for 20, 30 years.

He knows exactly who they are and their health issues, et cetera, et cetera.

So previous to the summer, Canada's highest temperature ever recorded was 113 degrees Fahrenheit or 45 degrees Celsius.

This past June in British Columbia, in the town of Lytton, They recorded a temperature of 121 degrees Fahrenheit or nearly 50 degrees Celsius.

Yowzers.

It was cooking.

And then you see things like the Spokane fire.

And you're like, well, they're and they actually they did it in a place called Lytton, British Columbia as well.

Basically, the houses returned to ash and the trees around it were fine.

So.

Um, it's, it's just, we, this has been happening for years now.

Lytton has, uh, you know, Lytton burnt down completely.

And then a couple of years later, they got evacuated again because the fire, you know, was back or the fire got back to Lytton again.

Um, we've had, uh, uh, Jasper, half a Jasper burnt down.

We've had Fort Mac.

The sweltering heat wave in the northwestern United States and Canada, meanwhile, has shattered all-time temperature records.

In June 2021, the village of Lytton in British Columbia set Canada's highest temperature ever recorded at 121 degrees Fahrenheit, circa 49.5 degrees Celsius, and promptly burned to the ground the next day.

Two years later, while the Amazon withered, Canada suffered its most destructive fire season, worsened by unusually hot and dry conditions.

By October 2023, 46 million Canadian acres burned, 5% of all Canadian forests, and nearly triple the amount burned in any previous year.
