Man, here's a funny story, with Jeff Jarrett and Billy Travis gets arrested in, in, uh, uh, we're in, uh, Lynchburg, Tennessee.

Ain't that where Jack Daniels is made?

That's right.

Lynchburg, Tennessee, I think.

We're in Lynchburg, Tennessee, and Billy Travis is with some girl, and she's underage, and he gets caught.

Uh, that's where Nashville is.

It's also where, um, Franklin is, where I am, and Lynchburg, Tennessee, which is Jack Daniel's.

And then you go over to the east, and that is when you get into the mountain areas, um, as well, so you've got the Dolly vibe over there and a, and a different culture there as well.

So it's really, we like to say, sometimes we say it's three states in one, and we say west, middle, and east.

Absolutely.

I live in Nashville.

So the Lynchburg history, the Prohibition history, all of that suffrage is very familiar to me, and I love to write about real history.

So Josephine Dunham just is a character... who I fashioned for this time in the history to tell the real history of Jack Daniels, of the distillery, but also Miss Mary Bobo's, all of that.

And I needed a character who would fit those different aspects.

Well, can you explain how the setting played a difference and how Josephine's story played out?

Oh, for sure.

And I'll have to take a step back because I've wanted to write about Lynchburg and Jack Daniels Distillery for a long time.

In fact, my husband has been after me to write it, but I've been pretty concentrated in the Southern mansion stories and in that real history.

I ask every guest, what was the best bet that you took in your life? Maybe one that did not seem like a good gamble at the time, but led you into the direction that you needed to be.

Well, the, I was offered by the President of Brown Foreman to move to Lynchburg, Tennessee and become the trainer, the distiller in training for Jack Daniels.

And I turned that job down.

You know, I went down to Lynchburg.

I've been there a bunch of times.

I really went down for a whole week with my eyes open for, do I want to do this? And I came back and I talked to everybody in Lynchburg, colleagues I've known for many years, and I turned the job down.

I thought that just destroyed my career.

I mean, at that time, that was the job, to be Jack Daniels' master distiller.

In 1967, on Beaver Lake in Arkansas, they held the first real bass tournament in America.

Less than one minute in, a 26-year-old kid from Lynchburg, Tennessee, set the hook on a two-pound largemouth.

First fish...

First tournament.

Did you ever expect fishing to become what it's become with you as the ambassador, the spokesman, the face of it all?

Absolutely not.

You know, when I was little, I remember catching the first bass – on a jitterbug, fishing with my grandfather just north of Lynchburg.

And I made a cast and I saw this fish.
