Luxo Jr.

...

Luxo Jr. at the beginning of the Pixar movies, you know, stuff like that.

[laughs]

So there's a rumor that that's what it'll look like.

Easier.

The, the other one that I thought was important to mention was Luxo Jr.

Which is-

Yeah

On the screen was a fully realized, beautifully lit, well-composed animated scene.

It was stunning, and it made me feel exactly what I felt in 1986 watching Luxo Jr.

That was the first time I watched a computer-animated 3D character take a breath and seem, against all reason, to have life.

It left me in awe.

And so he decided to take his desk lamp and do a little animation of it.

And it became a minute 44 second long film called Luxo Jr.

And at that point, I was working with that team.

And we took it to SIGGRAPH, which was the big computer graphics conference every year, where we always showed our latest work.

I can't tell you how many people I hired in years later who said this was the signature moment in their life.

When they saw Luxor Junior, they realized, what computer graphics should be and put them on a path to whatever they could do to try and get to Pixar.

Was Luxo Jr. made after you spun off into Pixar or was that still back when you were part of Lucasfilm?

We made Luxor Jr. when we were still on Lucasfilm.

and got some jobs at Colossal Pictures and kind of started there in a number of little studios.

But when I saw Luxo Jr. in a short film festival, I fell in love.

It's computer graphics, but I cared about those characters.

Yeah.
