Steam.
Chris TitusHOST
5:27
Now, install Lutris is where I'm going with this video.
Chris TitusHOST
5:31
Lutris will help you will help you get by on minigames so let's go to lutrus.net and you can actually download and install this or just use your package manager install lutrus it has a whole bunch of different games but for today i wanted to do warframe so just type in warframe or the game of choice here and you can kind of check its compatibility And make sure a careful note on these directions down here.
Chris TitusHOST
6:04
It'll tell you exactly what you need to do to get maximum performance, because if it says it's gold or platinum, it's going to work pretty darn good as long as you follow the instructions.
Chris TitusHOST
6:17
I saw this.
Chris TitusHOST
6:18
E-Sync is not really something that I really needed.
Chris TitusHOST
6:22
DXVK, which is Vulkan, obviously I have that installed.
Chris TitusHOST
6:28
But the rest, I just clicked install and let Lutris do its thing.
Chris TitusHOST
11:40
really solid webcam you know fixed but those webcam settings I really had to just dive in and really do some research to find some stuff to increase sharpness to increase the exposure or decrease the exposure depending on my setup just so I could have a decent looking picture because out of the gate it just looked like utter garbage so that was a little bit of a thing to set up second kind of really annoying thing that I wish was better wine there's certain Windows programs Windows games mainly but wine doesn't work that great it just doesn't I've addressed this before in the channel in press videos it's getting better and they keep improving it especially that steam now has proton the gaming has become far more consistent and and they flush it out to where it is a consistent experience and someone can just click install.
Chris TitusHOST
12:41
There's other packages like Lutris, Play on Linux, and these really help install other things like older software.
Chris TitusHOST
12:47
If you want to run an older Photoshop or an older Microsoft Office 2010 or something like that, Play on Linux is pretty good for that.
Chris TitusHOST
12:57
But overall, Wine is just all over the place and for the most part, newer software doesn't work that well with it.
Brodie RobertsonHOST
20:04
And then eventually we saw launches like Bottles, launches like, um...
Brodie RobertsonHOST
20:10
Lutris also making use of Proton as well.
Brodie RobertsonHOST
20:15
And suddenly it becomes more than just a thing for Steam.
Brodie RobertsonHOST
20:19
Now it's something that is being used as just like a general support tool.
Chris TitusHOST
21:20
I'd say I like my old games.
Chris TitusHOST
21:22
And I would say, uh, a lot of times when you're running things through proton and, uh, also Lutris and all the different launchers I have, like there's a bunch of games I don't have that aren't on steam and I use independently, uh, And a lot of times I just want to close out of anything that's being emulated in wine or proton.
Chris TitusHOST
21:43
And I made a restart script that essentially goes through shuts down all of proton steam, wine, whatever it is, and then just kind of clears out my whole system.
Chris TitusHOST
21:53
And then I got a nice, fresh uh gaming surface to go off of whenever there's problems i don't use this that much today gaming's just gotten so good but it's still like a legacy i like myself heal scripts so if any time i'm like hey i have to use an llm to fix an issue or whatever instead of just having the llm fix the issue i have it write a script so then i never have to ask it again so then if like llms disappear tomorrow i'd be like I got mine.
Vin StoneHOST
10:47
And
Jill BryantHOST
10:48
I wanted to mention Matthew, the creator of Lutris in chat, he said, make sure to check out the Castlevania demo.
Jill BryantHOST
10:56
And I have that in my demos too, Matthew.
Jill BryantHOST
11:00
For sure.
JillHOST
0:26
He parses through chaos and confusion with the efficiency of a streamlined terminal, bringing clarity to any situation and resolving problems in record time.
JillHOST
0:38
And today, the creator of Lutris, Matthew Commandan, returns as our guest host, Penguin.
JillHOST
0:45
And he has some hot off-the-press Linux gaming hardware to share and huge Linux gaming news.
JillHOST
0:55
But he who shall not be named will be returning next week.

10 MINS LATER

JillHOST
11:11
And in fact, we are live on Twitch right now.
JillHOST
11:15
Yay! So here is another big announcement.
JillHOST
11:20
And because Matthew is here, creator of the Lutris video game platform for Linux, I thought this would be a great time to make this announcement.
JillHOST
11:31
Also follow me on Twitch at twitch.tv forward slash Jill underscore Linux girl for future Destination Linux game streams with me, Ryan, Zeb, our producer, Alan, and our guests like Matthew and our wonderful Destination Linux community.
Chris TitusHOST
1:53
And then the third way.
Chris TitusHOST
1:55
is lutris lutris is basically a website is like this huge collaboration of everyone that's been gaming on linux for years has put together scripts to install and configure uh the game to work on linux Now, almost all of these projects that I've talked about as far as Lutris and Proton, they're based off of something called Wine.
Chris TitusHOST
2:20
And Wine is a compatibility layer that allows basically translation of those Windows-based stuff like DirectX into something that...
Chris TitusHOST
2:33
Linux can read.
Chris TitusHOST
2:43
But it's very, very un-user friendly for a new user.
Chris TitusHOST
2:47
So I don't recommend that.
Chris TitusHOST
2:49
That's why I was like, hey, stick to Lutris or stick to Steam because they're far more friendly and pretty much anyone can use those two products.
Chris TitusHOST
2:57
So that's why I didn't mention wine in this.
Vin StoneHOST
55:23
You mean Matthew Matilda Mcburden?
Jill BryantHOST
55:25
Yeah, that's, that's the creator of Lutris in chat.
Jill BryantHOST
55:28
[laughs]
Vin StoneHOST
55:28
Oh, you said Matthew Strider, and I didn't see anybody by that name in chat.
RyanHOST
61:31
Jill, is there gonna be a special guest next week or anything, you know?
JillHOST
61:34
Yeah, we have, uh, Matthew Commenden, creator of Lutris on.
RyanHOST
61:37
There you go.
JillHOST
61:38
Yeah.
Brodie RobertsonHOST
95:52
So there's going to be applications in KDE that at least have like a little bit of AI code.
Brodie RobertsonHOST
95:57
Then you have projects like Lutris, which openly use AI.
Brodie RobertsonHOST
96:00
They did have an additional policy basically saying well-maintained applications could use it, like legacy applications could use it.
Brodie RobertsonHOST
96:08
Anything that had been around for a while was not going to be removed, but Then that basically created the two-tier system where people who were on the store could effectively do whatever they wanted with AI, but people who weren't on the store, they were barred from it.
