When, back in the First Age, Beren the Human and Lúthien the Half-Maya Elf wanted to marry, her father would only grant permission if Beren brought him one of the Silmarils.

Given that at the time they were in Morgoth's crown and he never left the depths of his fortress, that was seen to be an impossible task.

But Beren and Lúthien, and Huan, of course, did it anyway.

That was the precedent for Elrond's response to another human wanting to marry an elf, giving him a hard task to prove his worth.

The twist here is that Elrond seemingly wanted and expected Aragorn to succeed.

So dogs are actually very interestingly central to these fantasy stories.

And it's kind of the two main archetypes of the dragons, right? In popular culture, you've got the big scary one who's guarding something or who's coming to pillage your town.

So Sauron starts to kind of have this inconsistent characterization across the legendarium that's really interesting.

Because, like, in the Silmarillion version of Beren and Luthien, Sauron's an absolute demon.

He just, like, messes with Gorlim and, like, tricks him.

And he schemes how to, like, take...

Luthien back to Morgoth so that he can, I don't know, I don't know what word to use here, be really horrible,

Yeah, be a monster.

Interesting.

Interesting that they're not mentioned as men, but they certainly could have been, right? Earendil's line ran through Tuor and Beren just as much as it did through Idril and Luthien.

The name, though, was made by the elves, and the fraction is calculated from the elvish side.
