So yeah, to, just to give a preview of the next season, uh, we're gonna be starting out with, uh, episode 98's Metal Machine Music, episode 99, St.
SteveHOST
86:00
Anger, and, uh, episode 100 will be Lulu by Lou Reed and Metallica.
SeanGUEST
86:08
So for Metal Machine Music, do you mind if I bring a book to read-
SteveHOST
86:12
[laughs]
David HolzerGUEST
43:16
But, you know, if you look at the stuff from, um, the 2000 onwards, Hudson River Wind Meditations, which I absolutely love, came out, I think, in 2007.
David HolzerGUEST
43:27
Um, the best sta- track on Lulu, Junior Dad, is, um, I think as old, almost as old as that, and I've ha- been privileged enough to listen to a couple of collections of demos that he made, um, of experimental droning, drone music, and, and they're, they're really wonderful.
David HolzerGUEST
43:47
And of course, he was playing with Laurie Anderson, playing with John Zorn.
David HolzerGUEST
43:51
He was on that, that hip New York downtown circuit as well.
David HolzerGUEST
43:56
And I think, although people would take issue with this, he wasn't as interested in writing lyrics, and in my personal opinion, the lyrics on Lulu are for the most part awful.
Mark EllenHOST
44:10
Do, well, st- yeah, that's, that's an interesting [laughs] point.
Mark EllenHOST
44:14
Do you think he would've ...
Andrew CreminesGUEST
28:41
yeah, they've had some stinkers and that I've have not been for me for sure.
Andrew CreminesGUEST
28:46
I'm looking at you, Lulu.
Andrew CreminesGUEST
28:49
And I, God, I've tried to listen to Lulu.
Andrew CreminesGUEST
28:53
I have tried just for the sake of like, oh, you know, every couple of years I'll throw it on.
Andrew CreminesGUEST
28:58
Nope, can't do it.

18 MINS LATER

Andrew CreminesGUEST
47:19
I just I can't imagine being confined to the constraints of a genre or a style or something like that.
Andrew CreminesGUEST
47:26
Like, it's just it's got to be so constricting and suffocating.
Andrew CreminesGUEST
47:32
to not be able to do like if, if James wanted to go do a techno album, like, you know, he won't, but I'm just saying like, let him, you know, I don't, you know, it's crazy to me that, I mean, they did the Lulu album.
MicahHOST
51:51
But like, it's like a limited thing.
MicahHOST
51:54
So I'm like, that sucks, but at least, you know, everything else, you know, I'll get, um, I can get the drinks later, you know? so then I'm waiting in the drive-thru and I'm just like I'm listening to by the way this whole time I'm listening to Lulu by Metallica by Metallica and with the other guy did you
JasonHOST
52:12
finish that yet?
MicahHOST
52:13
yes and I was like we're gonna talk get into that okay so I'm like so I'm just like kind of sitting there I'm listening to this terrible album and I'm like They just ran out of everything, didn't they? There's going to be no Super Saiyan sauce.
MicahHOST
54:03
I'm not opening it.
MicahHOST
54:05
i threw it away i ate my meal we lost scott the wads instead and i'm just like screw it and i opened like a bag of chips and potatoes i eat the whole thing i ate the entire thing and i i would that powered me through that next day at work i'd eat anything until nine o'clock and i ate another half bag of chips And then that's not a common thing after church.
MicahHOST
54:33
So yeah, I didn't finish Lulu.
MicahHOST
54:36
But I'm just like, gosh, this album.
Neil KnottHOST
7:29
How you all doing? Have you had a good week? Jolly, jolly good.
Neil KnottHOST
7:32
Yes, I have been opening up my shows the last couple of months, going through the Metallica discography, up to the album Hardwired to Self-Destruct, and the more knowledgeable Metallica fans may realise I've completely bypassed the Lulu album.
Neil KnottHOST
7:46
Ha ha ha! uh that's actually a lou reed album if you ask me with metallica doing backing music i don't classic uh class it as a metallica album so there you go so i spit out the bone i think that's one of the best metallica tracks of the last 20 odd years absolutely stunning 30 years let's say uh absolutely brilliant stuff so one more album for metallica 72 seasons next week and then i'll have to find something else to open up my shows So anyway, coming up this week, new stuff from Anthrax, Trivium, 200 Stab Wounds, Werewolves and a few underground bands as well.
Neil KnottHOST
8:19
And on my regular features, this is my cover of the week.
DanHOST
22:46
And the other ones they say were underrated, uh, uh, Slayer's Diabolus in Musica, which to be fair, I don't know.
DanHOST
22:52
Um, and, uh, oh, yeah, uh, Lou Reed and Metallica's Lulu apparently is underrated.
MichaelHOST
22:58
Yeah.
DanHOST
22:58
Apparently, it's great.
