Democrat Celeste Johnson and Republican Luke Searle align on many Wasatch Back issues.

During an October 15 forum hosted by KPCW and the Hebrew Leadership Academy, the Utah House District 59 candidates said they want to limit state overreach.

Johnson said issues should be addressed

I don't think there's anybody in this room or anybody reasonably to be able to say that it's w- within its scope.

That's Luke Searle, the Wasatch County Council member running in House District 59.

The Republican faces former Midway mayor and Democrat Celeste Johnson, who likewise criticized MIDA.

If this community wanted this economic component, then we should have had a part in the decision-making process.

I still remember the first race.

In fact, I think one of your best calls early in your career, I think it was the 2017 edition, in the final five minutes of the race when, uh, Paul Morris and Luke Searle snatched the lead from Chad, Chaz Mostert and Lu-

[laughs]

... uh, Nathan Morcom.

So what updates are being proposed?

So we discussed this a, a number of weeks ago, and, um, council member Luke Searle has been really pushing, um, the, the county and the city to cooperate sp- specifically on things that we can do to preserve the North Fields.

We have an existing MOU, and that's why that was proposed as a, an addendum to it, um, where the city has funding sources through, um, some fees that they collect through their annexation, uh, agreements that, that is specifically for preservation.

Um, and the county has both our open space bonds and rollback taxes that are available for open space preservation.

The lobby is a national grassroots organization with hundreds of chapters across the country, including the one here in the Wasatch Back.

Local chapter co-leader Tracy Harden says, "The nonpartisan organization works with lawmakers on legislation aimed at addressing climate change and protecting the environment." The forum is tonight at the Park City Library Santi Auditorium from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

It includes the candidates for Utah House District 59, Republican Luke Searle and Democrat Celeste Johnson.

That district includes Wasatch County and a portion of Park City.

Well, we're really excited, because we have our, uh, uh, both our House 59, which covers a lot of, most of Wasatch County, and then Park City proper, both, uh, the candidates, um, that are running for that open seat, that was Mike Koehler's seat, that he's no longer running.

So we have, um, Luke Searle and Celeste Johnson, the two, the Democrat and Republican running for that s- open seat.

And, uh, then we also have s- um, House District 4 and Park City split.

So House District 4 goes from about Silver Springs north.

And it puts White Sox runners on first and second with two out of the first inning.

And Luke Appling is at bat.

Appling up there at the plate.

Luke takes the first one for a strike over the inside corner.

He turns around more or less in surprise when he hears the call to strike.

It looked pretty good.

That gets Juggles the ball momentarily, but gets a hold of it and throws it into second base, chasing Jimmy back to first.

That ball took a funny, very high hop.
