How long has this been known? And what is the role of nitric oxide?
10:25
Okay, this has been, no, not too long.
10:28
In fact, this study was done where I got my PhD in University of Texas at Houston, a different, you know, they have lots of places there.
10:38
It was a whole different group, and it was in the late 09, I mean, late aughts, so like 2009.
10:43
2009, oh, that's old news.
10:46
No, you're not past that because nobody else is looking at this.
10:49
And interestingly, the lead researcher on this said, I actually heard him talk after that about nitric oxide.

24:16
free radical
14:00
What can you say to somebody that's questioning that? Yeah.
14:05
Well, I gave up taking a multivitamin mineral and focused more on my blood flow and longevity because if you eat a pretty good diet, you get just about everything you need.
14:18
But I do want to say real quick, and everybody needs to remember this, if you do any supplementation at all, or if you don't, you need to do what I call the big three.
14:27
And that gives you the most bang for your buck because you can spend lots of money if you're not careful.
14:32
So vitamin D3.
14:34
Omega-3s and magnesium.
14:38
If you just do those three things, and omega-3s, I prefer krill oil, the red stuff.

24:07
Okay.
7:18
[laughs] No, not at all.
7:19
Um, and, and it was becoming medicine.
7:24
It, it was more than just, "Okay, we're gonna open a hole in your head and hope the bad things come out and you get better." Uh, that's phrenology anyway.
7:31
But so n- so medicine was getting to be systemized, and it was, uh, it needed, it needed rules and regulations so it wouldn't be snake oil itself.
7:42
So they looked at everything other than what a medical doctor does as, you know, not medical, which is kind of simple.
7:51
But, and that included foods and diets, so there were a lot of dietary things.
7:55
I mean, graham crackers came up because it was easy to make.

22 MINS LATER

29:45
Yeah, problem.
2:10
Scare 'em straight.
2:11
Yep.
2:12
Uh, it works well, but it's just not how our educational system works.
2:15
That's another story for another time.
2:16
But I got into supplements.
2:17
It just sorta dropped in my lap.
2:19
I was in grad school.

6 MINS LATER

8:31
Is it worth the money? [laughs]
13:28
Mm-hmm.
13:28
And it's just ex- that, that, that was in, uh, the '90s and it just exploded.
13:35
And now you try to look at nitric oxide in the scientific literature and, and, and you're just, you're inundated.
13:41
So it's that important.
13:42
But what I like to tell people, okay, you, you, we, we know we have to live with oxy- we have to have oxygen.
13:48
You know, and that's O2, two oxygen atoms.
13:51
That's an oxygen molecule, O2.

10 MINS LATER

24:10
Is this just inevitable, or is it lifestyle driven?
9:29
... after.
9:29
Yeah, sorry I butted in.
9:30
But that's extremely important because first the muscles need energy, but then they have to repair all these little micro tears and that, uh, things that we don't really want to think about 'cause it sounds like you're tearing yourself up.
9:47
But not really.
9:48
What you're doing though is your muscle's sending out little signals.
9:52
It'll actually pinch off pieces of its membrane to go to the brain saying, "Hey, look, we just did a hard workout or a medium workout, so you need to turn on hunger and, and you need to turn on like a protein fetish g- so we can rebuild all those muscle proteins that, uh, are taking the hit of the structural stresses." So this gets very mechanical.
10:18
So that's why you need protein.

10 MINS LATER

20:34
Um, but obviously that's a big one to preserve and keep functioning well as we age.
