Luke 23

This miracle of this leper being cleansed here at the end of Mark chapter one is recorded as well in Matthew eight.

and Luke chapter five.

In fact, Luke says that this man was full of leprosy.

When he was still living before he went home to heaven, we supported brother Tommy Tillman.

We now support his son.

Number one, the command is to go show himself to the priest.

And some people wonder why this is.

Well, because Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, you are still on Old Testament ground.

And he said to them, These are my words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the law of Moses and the prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.

Luke chapter 24 verse 44 Many Old Testament prophecies were fulfilled in the life of Jesus Christ.

The following list mentions some prophecies that all came true on a single day.

The day of his capture and crucifixion.

Is 53 to 12.

But Jesus said, Father forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.

Luke chapter 23 verse 34.

The three Marys were standing and listening to all this reviling.

Luke 23, verse 47 to 49.

Now, when the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God.

Certainly, this was a righteous man.

And yet, as he hung there in agony, nails through his hands and feet, barely able to breathe, he cried out, Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.

Luke 23, 34.

Does this sound soft? The cross, where God's perfect love and perfect justice meet.

The cross is the most profound act of compassion ever because it is love in its fullest expression.

Is that what he said? No, that's not what he said.

In fact, Luke 23, verse 43, truly, I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.

That man had no time left to do a single good work.

He couldn't build anything, give anything, fix anything.

Don't turn.

Luke, Luke 23 records the first and last sayings of Jesus from the cross.

Yes, sir.

"Father, forgive them."

Yes.

And one of the One of the areas, or one text, I should say, that has added to the confusion is not necessarily the text itself adding to the confusion, but the interpretation of the text that has added to the confusion is Luke 23, 34.

One of the last words of Christ while hanging on Calvary's cross was, Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.

And I know that there are biblical scholars who disagree over whether this is actually a part of the inspired canon to begin with, but even if you say this is a part of the God-breathed canon, Jesus did not hang on the cross and say, I forgive you.
