Lugol's iodine

This is a good one.

Lacey says, "If you take the new Keto Chow with iodine, do I need to quit taking Lugol's?"

You can.

Which is iodine-

in case you didn't know, it's also iodine.

Yeah.

Lugol's 2% is, uh, potassium iodide, uh, and iodate, and you can s- you can stop using the Lugol's drops- Uh, because a day's supply of the mineral drops is gonna have more than the, the daily RDI of iodine in it.

It's gonna have twice as much as the, as the recommended daily intake.

And so, um, I'm let's see, I'm like two months into it.

I know that because I'm at nine drops right now and I'm going up by one drop of the 2% Lugol's iodine every week.

Um, I did notice in the first few weeks, some muscle aches, um, that I think was, you know, part of the detox, uh, and a lot of fatigue, um, that has all subsided the muscle achiness, the fatigue has subsided.

Um, Um, the, the one thing that I've noticed so far, I'm not up to the amount that Dr. Brownstein says, you know, if you have a goiter that you need to get to and sustain for like six months, which is about like 50 milligrams a day, which is a lot, it's a lot.

Each daily dose has 500 mics of iodine.

Or you can give something like Lugol's 2%.

J. Crow's makes a very reputable 2% Lugol solution and take one drop or two drops a day.

And just hundreds of thousands of people, Red Sage, who used to say, my hands and feet are cold all the time.

They get plenty of iodine back in their system.

A lot of doctors are very worried that you're going to get too much iodine.

Guess what? Guess what would happen to red sage instead of taking two drops of 2% Lugol's a day? What if red sage took three drops of 5% Lugol's? What would happen? Red sage would just pee out the excess iodine.

It's absolutely fine to put iodine drops in your electrolyte drink.

If you make an LMNT watermelon, you can put two drops of Lugol's 2%, or you can put your daily serving of the Daily Minerals in there, and it's got 500 micrograms of iodine in every serving.

Uh, but yes, you absolutely need your iodine.

Are we allowed to talk about the new thing?

And you're getting pain.

So the other things for tumors, especially breast, are the Lugol 7%.

Lugol's liquid, 7%.

Really important.

And DMSO, you can get a DMSO topical.

So probably can't use that, you know, daily.

You can also use it to carry in things.

So if you put out, for example, you put the Lugol's on with the DMSO, it can carry it in.

Maybe it says kelp on it.

Maybe it says Lugol's.

Maybe it says pharmaceutical grade in a fancy schmancy font on the front.

And then you take it home, you take it every day, you feel good about it because iodine is good for your thyroid, right? It is.

Number one, kelp-based iodine.

We're gonna talk about that, break down the pros and the cons.

Number two, Lugol's, which is the OG solution of iodine.

Now, Lugol's iodine is the type of iodine.

How much iodine? Let's just say somebody here, they don't know if they have low thyroid, they don't know what's going on, but you're saying, "I want you to take iodine." How much should that person take in milligrams?

Um, Lugol's 5% is 6.25 milligrams of iodine in a drop.

Breasts need five milligrams.

Um, thyroid needs six milligrams.

Okay.

I have a little chart here so that people can understand, 'cause I don't know what people are buying.

But you like the Lugol's 5% iodine, but sometimes that's hard to get.

So Lugol's 5% iodine, 25 milligrams, which you just mentioned, is four drops.

That'll get you enough iodine.

The other way to get enough iodine is to use a supplement like J.Crow's Lugol's 2% or 5% iodine.

Newer guidelines and reviews may use somewhat different timing based on the clinical situation, but for a practical bedside framework, remembering thionamide first, iodine afterward is a very useful approach.

Iodine can be given as potassium iodide or Lugol's solution.

Common regimens include SSKI or Lugol's solution in divided doses.

The exact formulation and dose depend on what is available in your institution.

There are also situations where iodine deserves more caution.
