Luddites

Maybe, and I'm just arguing this, maybe that's how we should think about it.

We don't wanna be Luddites.

We don't wanna be not in the business.

I wanna remind people that while I don't want a data center around me, they are server rooms, right? They're just massive server rooms.

You know, that spread is the profits.

But again, I haven't done the huge deep rabbit hole in AI, I've actually kinda been an AI Luddite.

Um, though, you know, we all use it and it's incredible.

But I don't see like where, where are the profits coming for these AI data center build-outs? Are they just betting that, you know, these like anthropic IPOs are gonna be insane and that's where they get their gains? Like, what...

I mean, it's all based on, uh, the, uh, compute itself having, uh, the returns it currently have, uh, that they're currently having.

But the way I'm seeing it go is things are just gonna get more efficient.

In fact, if you look at a lot of the curves, and I, I, I, I'm not a Luddite, but I haven't done the deep dive you're talking about-

And ever since then they called people who were afraid of technology Luddites.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Uh, so some of this is just naturally, you know, Luddites, and then some is common sense.

I mean, listen, we do know if you look at some of the things that are happening now, uh, with some of these college grads, AI has, has taken their jobs.

But net-net, and I gotta tell you, this blew my mind because it was in The Economist.

Yeah.

And ever since then, they called people who were afraid of technology Luddites.

Yeah.

But net-net, and I got to tell you, this blew my mind because it was in The Economist.

I really, really try.

I mean, I'm not a Luddite, but I do.

I think opening that Pandora's box is tricky when you're in a creative industry, right? That's the first thing.

But if you look at the background to what some of these things do, I thought I was reading about, you know, that Will Smith film, like iRobot, where they take over, right? But no, this is real.

Yeah, I mean, I don't want to make everyone unhappy having put across a place of mindfulness and I think there, you know, but working in the States the last six years, what I've seen is, you know, there has been swinging job cuts in industry in the States and lots and lots of amazing people on the job market struggling to get other things.

and because the world is changing and some of it driven by ai some of it just been driven by things like um you had the great resignation was that thing in the uk yeah but um you know yeah so all the companies were on this kind of covid digital investment bubble and then they overhired and you know suddenly they want to cut their cost base and stuff like that you know many different things driving it but yeah really really tough where where do i see it going i think that All the way back to the Luddites, right? Technological revolutions have impacted labor markets in really painful ways.

And each time there's ended up being more jobs and more wealth than there was before the innovation.

Now, that's cool.

Especially considering there is tech that would make that easy without disruption.

And they just like, I mean, I saw you outside the Suffolk County Courthouse a few weeks ago, and it is like this very old building with... like no Wi-Fi, you know, really like Luddite staff.

And it just seems like it's from a different, like it's still the colonies in

Massachusetts.

Don't hear me.

I'm not like a Luddite saying we don't use AI, but We're going to come down from that eventually.

And then people are going to be like, oh, yeah, we still need security.

We still need IT.
