Lucy Hardgrove is a screenwriter who, stop me if you've heard this one before, is a bit cynical about love.

She's hired to write a remake of a 1947 Christmas classic, but she changes the happy ending to one where the angel figure chooses to keep his wings rather than sacrifice them to keep the lovers together.

The studio head doesn't approve of this, so he sends her to the Biltmore estate where the movie was originally filmed, hoping it will inspire her to buy into the original ending.
