Okay, here's what I didn't know.

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes draws on a poem by William Wordsworth published in 1799 about a young girl named Lucy Gray who goes missing during a snowstorm never to be seen again so i will be going back and reading that book now that i am in the know because taking a compelling old poem and building a modern story around it one that also explores political power and social control is worth more than just a glance but back to sunrise in my own words sunrise on the reaping is set in the world of penem an advanced militant civilization divided into the privileged capital and 12 socially and financially tiered districts The further you get from the Capitol, the worse your life is.

To combat the flames of an uprising, the Capitol holds what it calls the Hunger Games each year to remind the districts and the Capitol of the importance of the status quo and unwavering support for the unequal unity of Penn M.

One boy and one girl under 18 are reaped from each district in an arena-style battle to the death televised for all to see, with game makers, outside influence, laboratory-grown monsters, rich and privileged paranoia, and political dissension to boot.

But if you do notice those connections, share them.

That way they can give us all another way to think about what's happening on and off the page.

hobbies of mine during this book aside from obviously picturing woody harrelson younger woody harrelson as the main protagonist the entire time included lenore dove wearing lucy gray's dress in every scene because i just couldn't picture the dress that they were describing in this book and i really loved that dress from ballad of songbirds and snakes i think about it picturing every mutt as a dog for at least five seconds before realizing it could be a butterfly a squirrel or a flamingo And that's where I'm going to leave things today.

oft I had heard of Lucy Gray, and when I crossed the wild, I chanced to see at break of day the solitary child.

No mate, no comrade Lucy knew, she dwelt on a wide moor, the sweetest thing that ever grew beside a human door.

You may yet spy the faun at play, the hare upon the green, but the sweet face of Lucy Gray will never more be seen.

Tonight will be a stormy night, you to the town must go, and take the lantern, child, to light your mother through the snow.

That, father, will I gladly do, to scarce the afternoon, the mince the clock had just struck two, and yonder is the moon.
