Low-Power Cellular IoT with Jared Wolff of Circuit Dojo

So for Skylo, it's the easiest thing to do is get a... a Sorcom SIM card, and then you enable that feature on there.

But the idea is that you have the ability to either use a terrestrial network, which is on the land, either LTE-M or NB-IoT, and then you can also connect directly to a satellite for if maybe you're in the middle of nowhere.

Some applications require it from the get-go, and some of them are like, this is just an extra backup because the increased costs.

But this is solving problems that we've been having for years in terms of IoT deployments where you're in the middle of nowhere.

And the key to it is it's got to be... super cheap and scalable.
I

Super cheap, and it's where companies like Sigfox and LoRa, the standard LoRa used to play, these non-cellular options, and why we have NB-IoT and things like LTE-M, they came along sort of in response to that.
I

That's been totally, I think, very much overlooked with the 6G discussion.

And at that point in time, it became, I guess, why did we then end up with the Nordic parts? I think we looked around on different things, but overall, we're coming back to the SDKs here.

The environment that felt most fleshed out within cellular IoT devices, things that could do LTE-M, for instance, and do really low power, you get good low power performance and you also get a pretty good pretty full-fledged sdk next to it with sephir and everything which we are using which is has been really really good for us i think that that's basically the the way of solving this the reason for having the the 52 was to add bluetooth connectivity because we wanted to have that as a fallback system and then basically going for a for a device within the same family using same st simplifies basically setups for uh for everything so that's overall a really like just a really good uh Good combination, right? And trying to keep things simple and streamlined.

First thing, if I had written down what I wish you would say when I asked this question, it would have been exactly what you said.

AI Meets IoT: Accelerating the Future of Embedded Software with Ismail Hamdad

Wi-Fi has constraints, so you need to change the way you're sending your data.
I
26:57Ismail HamdadGUEST
When it comes to LTE-M, you need really to compress.
I
27:01Ismail HamdadGUEST
Because LTE-M is, first of all, expensive.
I
27:06Ismail HamdadGUEST
And you want, usually when you use LTE-M, you want to save power as well.
I
27:10Ismail HamdadGUEST
So you don't send the same type and amount of data on LTE-M.
I
27:14Ismail HamdadGUEST
When it comes to satellites, it's even more.
I

So I built what we will be launching very soon.
