If it had gone to number one, it might well be on this list, but it only got to number two.

The one I'm putting on the list is the last of seven singles from that album, which is Love Will Never Do Without You.

Again, a record that I could see the potential of even before it was a single.

It was my favorite track on the album.

She sings in a low register on much of the record, a voice that is not natural for her, but she makes it very plausible and does wondrous things with it.

And there's just this ebullience when it gets to the chorus that, you know, gives me chills every time.

So yeah, Love Will Never Do Without You has long been a favorite of mine.

Well, you know, I doubt Janet Jackson is listening to this or if she really cares about my opinion.

This is a different type of vocal performance.

And just like with some of her last singles, like let's say Love Will Never Do Without You and That's The Way Love Goes.

She kind of traded in that soft coup for a sinister, truly rhythmic attack.

The thing is, when you really think about it, she's basically rapping the verse, singing about these raw fantasies, feeling passion and feeling lust at the club.
