Love Story

The way she puts it, she didn't have the right look for Hollywood.

Ali MacGraw is most known for films like Goodbye, Columbus in 1969, Love Story in 1970, and The Getaway in 1972.

She is also known for taking her work to bed, as in co-stars, but we're just talking about one of them today.

She received a Golden Globe Award and Oscar nomination for her performance in Love Story with Ryan O'Neal.

Her popularity was solid enough to withstand a five-year hiatus when she returned to the big screen in 1978 with Convoy, starring Kris Kristofferson.

Now, I must confess that I originally thought Steve McQueen took or, I'll say, made advances on Ali MacGraw to upset or [chuckles] flex his muscles at producer Robert Evans.

And they also gave the impression that it was unrequited love and attraction.

So yeah, I, I was, I was swayed by that.

You know who

I loved? The girl that played Caroline in JFK, Love Story.

What

is her name? Sarah Pigeon.

I'm not convinced this scene was filmed first.

I think this scene was filmed a couple episodes in, but they put it at the top of the season because they bring up Carole, and because, uh, Martha talks about watching Love Story.

It's all she can think about, and she talks about her relationship with JFK Jr., and how she did talk to him about getting on that damn plane.

Martha, you could've saved the world.

I met her at the Polo Lounge.

And she was the casting director all those years ago at Paramount for The Godfather and for Love Story.

And then she became a super agent, if you will, for the likes of Christopher Reeve, who appeared in Somewhere in Time at Grand Hotel.

And Richard Gere and Katie Couric.

It was really pretty cool, actually.

And I was fortunate enough to cast two.

I mean, I cast a lot of movies, but two of them were Love Story and The Godfather.

And this is the 50th anniversary of The Godfather this year.

Correct.

And I mean, one of the things that people say about this movie is that it's a platonic love story between the two of them.

And this definitely goes and shows that.

You know, because they become the closest of friends.
