Lost Coast

I think the best tool to deal with this on trail is knowledge, knowing your route, knowing the conditions, knowing yourself.

And that means like you on the coastal part of a trail like that, or on something like the Lost Coast route in California, You're going to want knowledge of tide tables and you're going to want to maybe consult with a few different sources, chat with rangers that are local to the area if you can, because they're probably going to now they fearmonger in their own way sometimes because they cater to the lowest common denominator of experience out there.

And they don't want to be calling the IBS in on you.

So but, you know, you can look at a lot of different sources and then and then turn inward and be like, what do I steady think of this situation? Because I think it's really, you want to be wary of testing or like trusting single source information.

A lot of which we've seen.

However, one we have not watched is a 2012 found footage thriller called Bigfoot colon The Lost Coast Tapes.

It's an hour and 25 minutes, I think.

You can find it pretty easily.

it is a LA-based Bigfoot movie.

They are taking a road trip out of L.A. to the Lost Coast.

Okay.

I have a, a strong background with horses.

I went up to the Mendocino Coast to the, to the lost, uh, it's called the Lost Coast up there, c- because there's only one road in and out.

And I hooked up with some, uh, horseback riding outfits so I could blend in with all the tweakers and meth heads up there, and, uh, that's where I kinda hung out for a while.

And, um, then the DOD contacted me, which was strange, and, uh, a little bit concerning.

Well, the, the FKT world is in- I think how we first heard about you, and I think Steven, you were just came across, um, [laughs] chasing on some, the forums, right?

I was looking at the Lost Coast Trail and poking around there, seeing what was going on.

I'll be out there next week.

And dude, I was cracking up, like laughing out loud reading about your run [laughs] on the Lost Coast Trail and everything that happened there to you.

And I, I think we had connected on, on social maybe a week or so before that, just on Instagram.

But yeah, reading that, dude, I, like I said, I was, I was dying hearing about your run-in with those turkeys out there in California.

Yeah, no, it's, it's not what you expect.

Like the Lost Coast Trail is like so full of stories of like timing the tides and the poison, uh, the poison oak and all these different factors.

So I spent a week literally just exploring roads, doing some drives with friends and then just exploring roads.

And I drove the Lost Coast.

And anyway, this road, Bald Hills, is south of Eureka.

It is, you can see the dark green in here.

Any car could make it, and it was just fun because you could do 20-mile-an-hour drifts and twists around.

They did pave it.

I believe the Overcrest Lost Coast Rally coming up at the end of October is going to be on this road, so first time I'll get to drive it paved.

But if you look over on this section right here, kind of a small intestine section, that section there, and by the way, it pops out where the red dot is, that is the Klamath River.

I grew up in Northern California, off the grid, Humboldt County.

It's called the Lost Coast, about five hours north of San Francisco.

And My grandfather, who lived on Cape Cod, the polar opposite side of the country, was the former head of personnel at the time, human resources for Johnson & Johnson companies globally.

He was a leader in his time.

So...

First thing I did, I knocked out the Lost Coast Trail, which that's something you and Brooke have done.

Is that right?

Yeah, I think we ripped it in 2022.
