I want to give you the numbers here to back up what I have to say about this.

Well, that sounds dramatic, doesn't it? A drop of 80%.

Uh, th- they're turning this entire exercise into a gong show, and, and no matter what the results are, people are not gonna see it as legitimate if it keeps carrying on like this, whether on, on either side.

As you said, you know, some, as I, I did in the fact check this morning with Lorne Gunter claiming, "Oh, this is gonna fuel the, the separatists." Well, no, it, it, it's actually just kinda harming everybody.

If we want resolution to this question, we need a fair, open process and vote.

And, and we're not getting that.

Now, despite the backtrack, the leaked memo has set off a firestorm of criticism against the CBC for its journalistic double standards.

Columnists like Lorne Gunter have pointed out that the CBC does not apply this linguistic caution evenly across geopolitical spectrums.

While CBC coverage has historically used the word terrorism without issue for events like the Air India bombing, it has strictly avoided applying it directly to modern groups like Hamas, as detailed in the internal directive leaked during the Israel-Hamas war, which exposes a weaponization of the concept of neutral language.

Now, by asserting that the words terrorist and terrorism are too emotionally and politically loaded to use independently, the CBC elevates itself above the sovereign legal determinations of the Canadian Criminal Code, CSIS, and Public Safety Canada, all of whom describe al-Qaeda, Hamas, and the 9-11 attacks as terrorism.
