Lorenzo Fortunato

With a gap of over one minute to the peloton behind, they could afford to be a bit cagey, a bit of cat and mouse towards the end, but it was a long time before we saw anybody make a move.

Lorenzo Fortunato made an attack with just under a K and a half to go, and it was up to Paul Lappera, the fastest rider in the group, to do the chasing, which he did, and he was right to do so.

Mauro Schmidt started his sprint first, but Lappera was straight onto it and managed to get the win despite the best efforts of McNulty and Racagne behind him.

There was a big bunch sprint at the Sparkassen-Munsterland Giro over in Germany.
